Money orders work, Canucks can specify US funds when they buy them at the bank or post office, wire transfers (each of you go to the bank, have your respective bankers talk to each other and transfer the dough) are OK for large quantities but the fees are usually $20 or so. Personal cheques apparently work as well, just have them write "US Funds" on the dollars and cents line.
My personal recommendation is PayPal though, just have them pay you the extra few points to cover the PayPal fees and call it done. t Pure mathematics is the enemy of every truly creative man -- Sir Alec |

Personal checks work fine but do NOT put us funds on the check, do the conversion your self and write the check for the right amount in Canadian funds, your bank will do the conversion when it gets to your account.
Money orders are likely a good way to go. Some people FedEx cash with obvious risks. In the long run reality always wins. |

Thank you all for great answers. I re-sent all to the guy (who wants to by '59 Caddy parts) BUT he says "his bank won't send the money in US dollars". He should tell the bank 'Nam's over long time ago.
Or he must be so deep in the woods that they still deal w beaver skins... Too bad he isn't she. THEN I'd be happy to accept beaver-anything ![]() PayPal's the only way he knows/will use sooooo, I had no choice but join ![]() - RWD rocks - |

"My bank won't send the money in US dollars" is an outright lie.

Not prying...but if you are doing very much business taking VISA/MC isn't that bad. Lots of processors, Costco is pretty popular. The scanner/printers can run a few hundred but I believe you can process with a PC also. One of my customers uses Quicken for her cards( a very small business btw). I just called my provider a few months ago and bitched and they dropped my fees 1% to match another providers.
My wife does wire transfers for her bank and says no problem with across border transactions or exchange rates. Just be careful about your account numbers... Paypal is sketchy. I've had friends get their whole account frozen over a complaint or question. I buy stuff with PP on Ebay and sometimes the 'net but never accept PP in return. |

At work we use Costco for credit cards and we do it online, not through a machine. |

I've been using Paypal for I-don't-know-how-long, now. Something like 7-10 years. I've never had any of the problems people are always losing their shit about. I'd go so far as to say 99% of the problems are NOT Paypal, but the shitheels you end up dealing with when you use Ebay. I neither buy nor sell on Ebay.
Thus far, I've been impressed with my dealings with Paypal. I transfer a couple hundred bucks to a friend after selling some used parts for him and Paypal calls me within 15 minutes to confirm I wanted to make that transfer. I let some mouth-breathing bottom feeder lowball me on a set of used cams because they have minor wear on one lobe (a 2mm pit in the middle of the lobe which did not affect performance), he gets them, gets buyer's remorse and files a dispute with Paypal because I don't immediately respond to the email he sent complaining at 2AM my time. I provided Paypal with documentation of the merchandise, pictures, and the expert testimony I sought out prior to selling them (as I don't sell useless slag). Paypal told him to pound sand. The trick is to not verify your account, I believe. If your Paypal account isn't tied to your bank account, no shady motherfuckers can scam you and have funds pulled from your account. Use your credit card (with fraud protection) to purchase using PP and, should you not get what you ordered and PP refuses to refund your purchase, your credit card company will be happy to do so. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. There's probably millions of people out there who use Paypal all the time with no problems at all. It's the cheapskates who put price above all other considerations who get stressed. IMHO. YMMV. Brian Driggs | KG7KCA | PHX, AZ | 89 Pajero alterius non sit qui suus esse potest Edited 1 time(s). Google Checkout worked okay for us. Limits it to $500 per month and will take 10 ish days to get to your account.
I use Paypal to send and receive money. Fees are about the same between either for receiving money. Which are about the same as credit card processing fees. Direct bank to bank wire transfer should also be doable. Grant Hughes Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/19/2010 02:37PM by NoCoast. |

Well... start laughing, I got fucked! And I'm not alone www.paypalsucks.com
I joined, got money into my new account but then got a phone call from PayPal's Mr Elliot Ness. He wanted to know what the money was for, how sender had made it, where we met, how well I know him, and other endless garbage. The amount was $ 925.00 - not enough to start jihad? Questioning was (jerk called on Sunday evening!) w nasty "I-want-to-know-everything-or-you-won't-get-your-money" attityde. Naturally, I blew the fuse (5A) and told the only sensible thing; go and fuck yourself. He did! And froze my account ![]() Luckily, I've got training and know how to fight assholes. The last fight was won against DMV! That was a hard one but after I "enlisted" Arnold's Office I got my fucking pink slip in hurry! So, PayPal ain't worse than DMV and after google found toll free number (PayPal jerks want you to pay!) I started to harrass them. Went through lot of shit and shit heads but finally got to the top and we made an agreement - The money was sent back in full and I will not hear from PayPal ever (I told my DMV story). And that's what happened. Then I got a follow-up: They want to know what pissed me off so bad!! I promised to tell if I get paid in advance, say $ 1000, and I won't take PayPal ![]() End of story. And the guy in Canada? He has to follow MY instruction now on or he won't be able to buy anything. 1959 Caddy parts are going only up so I'm not in hurry to sell. - RWD rocks - |

Our Google Checkout account is verified, so there's no daily limit and it only takes about 24 hours. They also hold no money in your account, instead they always transfer everything to your account.
