Upgrade Rally Anarchy? PLZ READ
July 21, 2010 02:45AM
So I've kind of let this site sit in deep-freeze mode for a while, I closed signups about a year ago? maybe longer. I still approve new people that bother to email me but other than that, I didn't really have the time or desire to police it once it got to a stable base. Some a-holes got to me, I guess.

But believe it or not these forums get a lot of hits, I guess there must be some good information that Google is finding. So I'm wondering if maybe I should open the site to new registrations again...

I'm also thinking of upgrading the site to have all the features of my other car sites, like car registry & photos, member blogs, tech articles, events calendar, etc etc. It would look like this -> http://www.mx5world.com/

Thoughts?
Leave it as-is or make it the ULTIMATE RALLY SITE EVERRR

"car registry & photos, member blogs, tech articles, events calendar, etc etc."

I thought about each one, and I'd vote no on each one. They all sound like more work.

The one thing I would change here is that the default setting for seeing a post is "single post with links to following posts". It would me much improved if the default was "show all posts in the thread", which is the setting that most of the folks with user accounts use.

Other than that, it would be nice to find some volunteers to add to the random images in the header.

Cheers!

Anders

I agree with Anders RA can live happily without these features. Some more pictures in the header rotation would be nice too.

Skye,

I agree with Matt and Anders. I like that the site is plain and simple. Finish your car instead!

I'm with the others, I don't see how those things are needed.

Curious about closing registrations... we keep sending new guys from SS over here to get sucked into JVLs evil web (chuckle). Can they not sign up easily?

Beyond that I kind of like the way it is. I've been involved in a couple boating websites over the years and it can be huge work and problems after a certain point of growth and "flash".

Who is footing the bill for this place? We always pitched in to help on other sites.

I'll add in my 2 cents (CDN), keep it simple, this place rocks because the conversation and the people are the focus. Rally "MySpace" already exists elsewhere, and it's kinda lame IMO...

Hey Skye,

only thing that might be just a little EASIER is alternate font like italic, bold, size..
Colors is always fun, too.
Photo could be just a little easier for those who don't nose.

And enabling embedding soooooper bitchin Group F videos would be nice...

As for new members, maybe that is something to discuss the howzto so youse dun't have to.

I've never understood why you can't upload photos in the for sale section, but you can everywhere else.

Keep it simple. JV's tweaks are about as far as I'd go. There should be a bunch of SAAB pictures available soon for adding to the rotation in the page header.
