wow, thanks everyone for all the great input

and the great thing about rally anarchy, is that this thread will probably still be here and available (though buried a bit) over the next 2-3 years since that'll probably be how long it takes me to get everything done yawning smiley

Mopar or no car!!!

I like that car. Granted, parts are hard to find, etc. BUT there's no mistaking a sweet piece of Correct-Wheel-Drive fun!!

good snag for only $550 as well!

I'm sure it won't be staying stock and mistu parts are sorta like datsun/nissan, all sorts of interchangable even crossing generations, with all the suggestions and people to talk to and a very creative roommate (who is wrapping up the build on his awd 91 colt hatchback this week) we'll get it all sorted out, it'll just take time because I bought a house recently and it comes first, I just didn't think I could pass up the car yawning smiley

I just love historic cars, even if they aren't all historic on the inside

That's the spirit!
Just start your search for the deal killers like windshields and blinkers, cause doesn't matter how wicked fast you or the car is, no windshield, no rally...

I have a good friend that also has a vintage Colt and another buddy found three really cool period articles on building these cars up.

I've got copies on my computer if interested - I just need an e-mail to send them to if you'd like them. (Big files though. 13 pages total - each page a 2MB pdf)

Not sure how much help they'd be - but still still a cool read.

And why not just post them here?
Information is only useful when it shared, and the more it's shared the more useful it is...

'Cause 13 x 2MB is 26 MB and I'm quite sure this forum won't support it.. (Even if it did - it'd be a bitch to download.)

I don't have a full version of Adobe to make them any smaller, and I can't print and scan them to a better format for posting for another couple weeks...

If anyone wants to host them I'd be happy to send them along.

Hey Merilee, just spoke with Comrade Smith.
he has PILES and PILES of a lot of what you will need, so he says make a list or the critical things you need and then talk.

Sweetness. It's gonna prolly take Todd a while to get out there and actually really get into the car. He's trying to finish up his awd colt right now, and then we've got an mr2 spyder in the driveway he needs to finish up and get back to his friend. Then put the lift in, and the fence up, and do some electrical around the house. Then we can look at the colt. Sometimes I hate being responsible sad smiley

Merrilee,

Congratulations on your Colt! Looks very clean good start.

As Comrade JVL says, I've been keeping a boatload of parts for the 1974-76 Dodge Colt (Mitsubishi Gallant) for years now. I probably have most of what you might need in the way of mechanicals and bolt-on's with two exceptions: I don't have anything for (1)the 1600cc engine; or (2) the automatic transmission. But don't worry about engines or transmissions.

Engines are easy. You can bolt-in anything from a 1.6, 2.0 or 2.6 litre engine including the 2.6 Turbocharged Starion.

Transmissions (4 or 5 spd.) are easy too. Just get whatever matches the engine you end up with. (You will need a different crossmember and pedal assembly for the clutch.)

And don't get ahead of yourself. Save the engine, transmission, LSD, brakes, cage, etc. for later. Building a rallycar on a tight budget isn't easy. I suggest doing SUSPENSION first. If you can't make it handle in rough terrain at speed, nothing else matters.

Good luck,
Rich Smith

Just happens to be a white Staion in lakewood (tacioma) Pull-a-part as of closing time.
Gearbox: $49+ core
Motor: $149+ core

And Starions have the bitchin-est dead pedal in the world: Michelin "Nora" tread pattern---tres period chic.

Remember block must match bellhousing, nasty surprises lurk waiting to snare the innocent....

Mr Rich, the plan is to save most everything for later and do this or that as things break while doing rallyx next year or as opportunity happens. I'm a poor single income person who just bought a house, house first, car second.

John, if I could, I wuold, but I don't even have that right now, but I'm sure deals will be around in the future (hopefully0
