Well that's more in line with John's quote for a car carrier service of $1100. And you can stay home while they ship the car to you? You also save the miles on the van, don't have to pay for rental of tow dolly/etc. I think with the combined time/resources having a car carrier ship it to you is your best value.

The car looks like it was originally white to me. That blue is a FJ cruiser color. Look in the interior pic up by the sun roof.

Yeah, it was repainted at some point, it's 2006 Toyota FJ 'Voodoo Blue'.

On page 2, there are a couple photos of what the guy before him did with the rear fenders. Kind of hard to see, but I think with a couple of 2" strips of sheet metal and a MIG, that could be easily made better. Compared to the body of the car I've currently got, that thing is super ultra awesome mint. The part he cut out on his car have rusted away on mine.

Although, the Tow-With-An-ovloV approach would be nifty as well. I'm guessing at least 15mpg, and for 2000 miles, that would bring the fuel cost to only $363.

so, 363(fuel) + 400(volvo) + 50(hitch) + 50(tow-bar) + 200(flight out) = 1063. Then there's the recoup of selling the volvo. 1063 - 400 = 663. Plus the added benefit of being able to meet some cool people in person.

So, that might be the most economical way yet, especially if one of those fabled 'free' volvos that I've seen mention of appears.

So, who's got a cheap-to-free ovloV capable of towing (preferably with a manual transmission) just hangin' around that someone wants to get rid of?

lemme know when you're here, I work in Portland, and I think there's a couple more on here who are in the area

Better yet.
Find someone from your area that wants a rust free truck or Volvo from the PNW. have them split the cost of flight and fuel and tow your Toyota back on that.

This is what the car I've currently got has, a bit of leprosy..



On the left there, the sill/rocker is basically gone. Not quite into the structure, but that's just the visible part. The rear bumper sides are barely on there, and the jacking points towards the front are starting to squish when I jack the car up, indicating a bit of interior rot, possibly. And the front cowl under the master cylinder is starting to get a hole in it.

I've put a lot of time and effort (and a fair amount of moolah) into the engine/drivetrain/suspension, and I just can't see this car holding together forever. The plan was to finish the mechanicals, get everything perfect, then transfer them into a mint shell.

Right now, the car just gets used for squishing cones and some HPDE's. Lately, the only cars faster are 300+whp evo's and sti's with good drivers. Even at HPDE's, I'm faster until the half-mile straights. The car is really well balanced, and responsive, one of the best RWD cars I've ever driven. Cool part is, with this shell, I get extra suspenders too, so I can put in something with more travel, and get out on the lake this winter, and get in on some rallyX action. I'll get on stage someday, but I'm thinking 2013 before that becomes a reality.

I've been diggin' around on portland and seattle craigslist a bit, most of the volvos I've found in the $500 or lower range is missing parts or needs work before it could really tow anything.

A truck would probably sell a LOT better here in West Consin than some furrin' vulva.

Ship the car man.... it's waaaay less work and thinking and doing. It just costs money and you're done.

You could spend waay more than a grand to fix rust on anything you're gonna buy out there.

Sean the Xratty man here has a good 1972 Dodge Tradesman, little more dough than 400 buck its good. He just towed the trailer and the Xratty to Idaho Rally.
Its pretty pimptastic so you could sell it for a million dollars back home, I can see the ad copy now: Classic Pimptastic Dodhge Van, 318ci. of real American IRON, and NO RUST!!!
