No, I thought it was funny. Box a control arm, a la control arm in a box. It's clever!

So how do you hook the other half of the control arm? Do you make it with a clevis? Looks like the ball joint will be side ways!

I bent boxed control arms often.

I bent stock control arms by just saying the name of some of my favorite stages near the car smiling smiley

I also bent up rights, body work, bumpers, rims, struts and hubs.

I bet I could bend your street car's control arms on the street with out hitting anything, care to give me the keys so we can find out if I am right winking smiley

I wouldn't want stronger A-arms. the only times i bend an A-arm is when i mess up really bad and hit something hard. OR jump way way too big and land hard and bend lots of shit.

A-arm can be semi fixed on stage with the tow strap trick, which allows you to continue and still set good stage times. then in service its a relatively easy fix.

If your A-arm is super super strong you are going to Mangle your attatchment points, or possible rip them out, Not a quick fix at service.

@ gorman this past weekend i hit a jump dukes of hazard style. bent 3 rims, 2 controls, my radiator support, and my subframe a little bit.

Had the a-arms been super beefy i would have destoryed the subframe and been out of the rally.

You need to engineer what parts you want to fail on your car.

I race in the south west on steel rims, learn how not to hit shit, and how to stay on the road and you'll be fine. (IMO) tongue sticking out smiley

Who the hell wants parts to fail on their car?

Think of it this way, imagine you've got two fuses in line in a wire. One is a 5 amp fuse (control arm), the other is a 10 amp (subframe or whatever.) If you replace the 5 amp fuse with a 15 amp you can then draw up to 10 amps without blowing a fuse. I know I would rather drive a car that could take a 10 amp impact than a 5 amp impact.

Subaru control arms are actually pretty stong.
People keep confusing this as being for strength. It's for strength but more importantly, adjustability.

Gorman doesn't count. It's designed to be a car destroyer.

And people keep repeating dogmatic "truisms" handed down without real reflection .
The fuse idea is silly.
You make the suspension strong, the hiubs strong, the subframes strong, the attaching points strong, and the shell strong.

Then IF you ever go fast and IF you whack into desk sized rocks like Grant did while really cooking, maybe you continue with a straight car
The objective is that the car remains straight for the little short sprinty events we do, straight so you can drive it as well as your abilities allow.

The fancy alloy thing is strong but it is also LESS WELDED JOINTS so it should be theoretically MORE RELIABLE...

Since when is reliable something we try and sabotage on our own fawkin cars????
