I think Grant hit on the common flaw with any completely unregulated system. Human greed. both systems work well unregulated in small groups where people are directly accountable (guilt, shame) to each other for their actions. Once the community becomes large enough human greed over rides our guilt about screwing our neighbors and we generally have no issues screwing nameless faceless people we don't know. this becomes even easier to justify if we also do charity work for other nameless faceless people.

During some recent deep thoughts, I came up with a theory that just as communism fails due to the underlying greed of man, capitalism too fails due to the underlying greed of man. It just takes longer and manifests itself in a much different way. The fact that so much wealth is tied up and given to people that don't actually produce anything and that percentage of people keeps growing will be the downfall. Or something like that.

Watch Mad Max. It has all the answers. The breakdown of society is coming. Its really important to get your car ready now, so we can have fun once it all goes down.

I've been making jokes about how in any kind of an apocalypse or world war, rally cars and being a rally driver will be a high paying job.

Anyone read that stupid book "the road" (gayest post apocayltic sci-fi ever) ? There are some sort of canabalistic bad guys who boil down their victims and make people-diesel for their bad guy truck. Ha! that was a good one.

I haven't, but I'm now ready to figure out how to produce diesel from dead animals.

Another perspective-

Who says we went wrong? Now, rally isn't what it used to be, according to the videos I've seen and the accounts I've heard. I wasn't there. Hell, I wasn't born until 89, anyhow.

However... amidst all the legal issues, and the roads closing, and frivolous lawsuits about stupid things... we still have rally. Yes, it's changed, it's not what it WAS... but it's still something that's not road course racing. Unfortunately it does cost more. But it's still here. It could have been axed... but people fought for it. People still participate. People are now currently trying to grow the sport and keep it alive. Not everyone has given up.

I wouldn't say anything went wrong until everyone abandons hope and just rolls over. Things will go wrong when people stop standing up for what they believe in and fighting for roads. We will have gone wrong when we no longer rally.

I was thinking today, after seeing a commercial with Ken and some clips from the new shitty video on Fuel TV, he's going to be on some show this week at some point.

Anyhow, I was thinking, would we (collective rally community or volunteers, organizers, competitors, and teams) rather have 100 spectators or 1 new competitor?
