Lately, I've been thinking about picking one of these up for a daily driver. 35-40mpg with an easy 4G63T swap. The Gaylant only gets about 21mpg around town, and I don't really need the AWD on the dry streets of Phoenix, so an inconspicuous little tin can like that would be ideal.

I have seen one in a CRS rally, though. Don't remember the name, but it was at Seed 9 in the last five years, maybe 2006; not entirely sure. It was red and G5. Because it wasn't 4WD, they weren't burdened with one of those ridiculous restrictors. Rumor had it, he was putting something like 400 to the front wheels.

I want to say he was seeded towards the back of the pack, overtook everyone by the second stage, only to break his axles halfway through the day and retire.

There's one in Phoenix which was recently putting down something like 500 to the front wheels (a highway toy), but he got bored with it and parted it out. Drives a Maxima now. :shrug

i have been attempting to sell my roller for months but idaho isnt the place to sell things it seems. even for 300 freaking dollars. My last idea is to get it running and do something with it, but i have a tad too many cars.

My first Rally car was a 1982 Dodge Colt twin stick ( Seperate overdrive lever for each forward gear ). It was like having 10 forward speeds.. I also owned a turbo colt and was looking at turing that into a rally car, but they had nothing but problems...

The Colt at Laughlin was an N/A 2.0L, Group 2 car, rolled on the first stage, when we ran the road about 6 to 8 miles from the hotel.

The other one, Rob Shibo's Group 5 got IRS last year, multi-link held up by a couple of struts I gave him with Bilstein inserts. (ex-Rod Millen Pikes Peak struts I was told, from his MX-6)

Well since I own a few of these maybe I should put in my 2 cents....
There is a lot of go fast goodies for these and the trans/final drive options are a plenty if you know where to get them from.
Check http://www.4g61t.org/forum/
for ALL the options motor,trans.........
As for the drivability I have rally crossed a 1.5 model for 2 years or so and when it is muddy (like when power is not a factor) I have taken top time of the day.
Not to upset Mr. V but there other options that have potential that just haven’t got into the right hands to prove themselves.
But remember your mileage my vary!!!

Chris Burns' car was indeed G2. 2.0l, 14:1 compression, engine machining done by his dad. Don't know what the transmission was. He and Chrissie rolled it at Laughlin 2004, and last I heard it was still sitting at Dave Turner's shop.

The wheels and other spares went to Odi, I think.

In 2006, Chris and carpooled down to Ridgecrest to teach in the rallyschool there, and we went in his spare Colt. He let me drive it at the rallycross that Sunday. It seemed a well-balanced and tossable car, but I don't know anything more about it than from those four ~1-minute runs, and six hours of freeway driving.

You'd think a Colt would be more somewhat suitable for rally than a Honda due to the Mitsu rally heritage. The car is mostly a Lancer without the rear overhang and they are pretty good looking cars.

The back end is similar to the VWs, but from what I understand, a lot weaker and sloppier. The IRS that went in Rob's car looked fantastic, but I'm not sure how well it worked. Off hand, I'm not sure which spindles they used for it, maybe 2wd Galant..? Wish I could find the pictures I had of it.
