Well i packed some stuff that finally, after every single thing went screwy on. is all together and ready to ship---of course on a Holiday weekend costing more time.

Ozgur, and Lee, lookie:

190mm travel front, and 210mm back

We need to get the front preload right, may have to use those little flat helper springs, but lets see.
These should have wheel/tire clearance even for a little wider wheels in case you guys go do some tarmac stuff.

I vacuumed out some rallycross dust, ziptied the rollbar padding and trimmed some nastiness from the door panel.

Those are some mighty fine looking suspenders.
Can you PM me some details-cost, internals, replacement parts availability, etc.

My rallycar stuff is here:

Hi ________________, well i could PM you but: why PM when the things you are asking are pertinent to everybody?

After 7 years, the price increases that have been nibbling at me finally resulted in a little increase, so these, being 4 strut cars (rather than strut front, shock back like VW, or Xratty of Corolla) are right at $2000/set complete with springs.

They are 4130 CrMo DOM tube, 6061 "aircraft quality" alloy bits, Bilstein 40mm diameter inserts---every one done up after conversations with end user---every one custom, so we have a choice of travel and damper settings and then of course springs to match.

These were set up to run original rubber/ballbearing top mounts, but I can do the strut tops to be say 20 or even 7/8" pin diameter if it's know the pin will be mounted in a spherical bearing and that's like multiples stronger.

The inserts can be rebuilt at Bilstein San Diego for $65 each, all parts can be replaced no problem, of course. It might maybe take some time justy depending on a) my inventory (I make these things and there is at times LOADSA money sitting in process or on the shelf, but still I can only make so many parts at one time---and then demand can spike and Whooops!) b) machine availability to make more (sometimes there are other jobs that have priority for machine time).

These are kinda a nice example of how this place works Rally Anarchy.
I make all this stuff except the ears whicha re made on a CNC plasma cutting machine owned by member William Timmins aka TSS Fab, Steel solutions, over in Redmonds, (But that machine has parts machined by me), the the little bend to make the ears more stable, semi wrapping was done at a different Member's place down the road, Robert Gobright, aka Rallymech or formerly :"Service Nazi"

See something funny going on?

The people all have NAMES and LOCATIONS.

They real people and like everybody else put their real name and real locations somewhere in the signature or sidebar thing so we all know we're talking to humans. Most people don't need to be reminded that it's just about the only rule here--just about.

So please, go fill out the information correctly what your name is_______ and that you live in Rustique Lower Bumfuckistan Falls Meadows Estates, or whereever.
It has helped repeatedly with putting people togeher who were unaware that there were other rally pervs nearby---because they all just followed the childish Intra-web tradition of cutsie names and idiotic anonymity.

Suspenders look pretty snazzy, John.

Rallyser, I checked out your blog. Nice looking car! I own a 92 Sentra rally car but it's gray/black. I have to say, these cars look pretty sharp in red.

I'll go fill out the info....

I think I just got so excited to see some real parts for my car.
BUT not nearly as excited to get my first John V smackdown.. ooooo baby! =)

Just kidding!! I've been a LONG time fan of your work.

I already have a set of 40mm Bilstein inverted struts, but they are a road racing setup with short travel. I need to get some inserts as the current inserts are toast. Nobody has been willing to even discuss the inserts though. If I sent you some measurements, dimensionally only, as I have no idea what the valving is inside, would you be able to make some inserts for me? I'm guessing yes, but you have to ask.

Let me know and I'll send some dimensions or send the lot out to you as you have time.

Get one front and one rear dismounted and disassembled and cleaned up then get a tape measure and charge the batteries on the phone and call, it takes time but it is quicker...
Don't bother too much talking to the wrong people about inserts, talk to me, there MAY be life left in yours, andf they may be able to be used..
Very often short travel inserts are normal inserts with nylon spacers to limit how much the piston goes down--and thus how much the shaft sticks out. EVEN IF YOURS ARE BENT (some) they may be able to saved (I made some jigs with the radius of the inserts , wide, 2 for cradling and one for pressing), and then revalved and the spacers discarded.

But measure the lower tubes and see if you can determine how much the insert sticks into the tube--ie how much overlap. make copious notes, write real big.
Then when you call, or gimme your number and i can call you when I'm not changing diapers or feeding the girls and when can talk "beeziniz"

It may not be as pricey as you thing...

And "toast" is kinda vague, have the insert "shat the bed" like lost oil or what?

hey piccies of the top pin would be nice too, piccies of everything...

and that was the gentlest little kind nudge to do the right thing...

Welcome aboard and thanks for filling out the stuff.
(see now that I knoes your in Anders Green country we know there's a good chance you'll wanna do those fawkin Tarmac events he puts on so that throws an extra joker into the deck, duddnit?) (And a second thought, now we'ze know where you are, is maybe it might be smarter to refurb as well as possible the stuff you have now and make it all Soooper tarmac Bitchin so you have something for that or track play-days---and just do a set of Sooper Bitchin boingers for gravel....and maybe we oughtter stink about replacing those curtain rods aka links in the back, links are cheap (28" link used in the Volvos retails for $14.80)

The old ones are off the car. I've been running some HotBits for now. I picked up a clunk in one front after a particularly rough rallycross, but they still seem to work fine on the gentler stuff.

I've won events since then, so they're okay for now. Crappy at autocrosses, but whatever.

The old Bilsteins were made by Shocktec. I believe they used Bilstein housing and Penske guts or something. They are gas charged from what I understand and pretty dangerous to mess with (as an amateur). I have the housings disassembled, so I can measure anything and everything. I've got a National Challenge RX this weekend, but I'll have some time next week to get some numbers and give you a ring.

Hey John,

Finally getting around to measuring and downloading some pictures. I've made one picture of a front and rear and added appropriate measurements. Have a look and see what you think about the setup. I do have numbers from the Bilstein inserts, however, they are from a BMW fitment and have been cut down from their original application to this size.

Anyway, have a look and see if this is useful at all. If not, we'll figure out another way.

Just out of curiosity, what spring rates did you send with the setup from your original post?

wow, what bizarre inserts. 40mm bodies with massive shafts.
Let's just say I don;'t think anybody is going to touch those.

And sorry but a can't make out hardly any of the dimensions, need "adult" or "senior' size numbers..

The steel is getting chopped up for the latest run and i finish 60 pcs for upper spring seat, lower spring seat and locking ring...

You should ring and we should discuss a timeline.

Hey John. I was thinking the picture would be downloadable and you could zoom it or something. The typing is 20 font I think. I was trying to "seniorize" it!

I can send a regular picture if you want.
Also, I don't have your phone number and haven't been around here long enough to have run into it.

I'll PM you a better picture or better yet, I'll post it on my google blog with a link. The pictures blow up nice and big there!

Looks great! Any pics of the ones you're working on for the BMW Compact? Give me a call when you get a chance, curious on when to keep an eye out for a box with the shocks for test fitting. Also want to follow up on the brake caliper brackets.

Thanks!
