New rally X track in NM
September 15, 2010 11:29PM
Hi all,

I've been a reader/lurker here for 4-5 years. Me and my friends have been lamenting the lack of anything Rally in this state. Recently we've been allowed to use a cool patch of ground. We've started a drivers club and have received insurance and the local governments blessing to run events.

The site is an amazing patch of ground and are we currently building a first-for-the-area crazy rally cross/time trial course.

The site is in Cerrillos New Mexico (off Highway 14). They intend to hold an inaugural event Saturday, September 25th.

I have to apologize about the late notice here.

The location in Cerrillos consists of an old gravel pit. They have received approval from Santa Fe county (blows my mind) and are carving up a track right now. This is a really DIY shoestring campaign to make something happen in the realm of rally in NM. A lot of sweat and time have been committed. The event is being run as a club event and if you can come out either to participate or watch, it would be great to see you there to help make this work.

Because the site is in a gravel pit the fan viewing opportunities are stupendous, you can see almost all of the 1.7 mile course. A fund raiser will be held in conjunction with the driving club event for the Cerrillos Hills State Park (directly adjacent to the club site), food and music will also be available at the event. Maybe, fingers crossed, Santa Fe brewery will be in attendance. If you are interested please go to facebook and search or Bluestone Autoclub.

I'm involved in the effort and if you have any questions ask here or PM me.

Thanks for checking it out

Yeah I guess I could cal it a Euro style course. It's funny, we talked to local officials about expanding to stage type events on county roads if this pans out.

Here is a chooped google earth image of the site. It's about 85% accurate. The track will be done in a day or two.

SteveL, i think we have elevation changes of 75-80 feet from highest to lowest, should make for some interesting g-outs coming down hill, some off camber stuff too.

biggreen, thanks... I hope we can pull it off and make it "sustainable"

Get over to the Mountain forum on specialstage.com and post this also!
Maybe get an announcement onto coloradorallycross.com as well.
Is it all gravel?
Stage event would probably be able to bring at least 10-15 cars from Colorado down. That's an incredibly easy tow from Denver area.

It's about a 9 hour drive from Phoenix.

As I see no mention of either RA or NASA in this thread, can I presume you're running independent and, thus, have your own ruleset? Of course, you have insurance, which will come with strings attached, no doubt, but I'm curious if non-logbooked cars will be welcome in some cases.

Might make for a fun weekend trip for some of us almost-theres in Arizona.

Kudos for taking the effort.

Hey Brian, yeah insurance was obtained for the event and yes this is independent. One of the great things about the gravel pit is that we'll have pretty much a continuously variable track, move some tires and you can have a course where the "run what you brung" class can play without the minor exposures, higher speeds and off-camber which will be reserved for caged cars. (it should still be a pisser)Plus from a green perspective we are in no way harming any ground or trees or wildlife. It's already stripped bare and has been so for decades.

Steven, I'm in Albuquerque for the balloon fiesta and would enjoy driving up to check out the course. Are you going to be that other the the 25th, later in the week? I came down from Sacramento where I do rallycross events and saw this topic over at dirtyimpreza.com

Thanks,

Brent

unlike moderated discussion forums we have 1-2 simple rules and expect them to be complied with since it works so well: REAL NAME as in first and last, and REAL LOCATION..
You can have a "screen name" if that's so important, but a REAL NAME and REAL LOCATION means people act like they're talking to a human and we don't, except for 1-2 incredibility dense people, have any silly trolling and flame wars....

So, please go fill in the stuff and then read the crap that says READ THIS

He means he and I.

And yes, it is rather odd to fill out a profile so people know who you are if you end every post with your name.... lol
