Consistent you are John. Hows about you get out there and drive some events......

Karl can drive + likely has more experience then I.

I'm a savage who drives the wheels off of my junk. Literally! Though not of late. Hmmmmmm.....

Don't start again John. No good comes of it.

Keep you shirt on Lane, just reassuring the boys that they don't need an absurdly overpower car when it's only 2wd.

I drove events from 1967 thru 1997, what does that have to do with Karl beating you AND everybody else for that matter...?
Other things are higher priority now.

Your inability to see that the subject was KARL's vehicle spec being enough to beat much higher spec and instead try and make out my words as some stupid person attack is flat stupid---don't drag your shit here.

Sure he has more experience than BOTH you and me in rally, and that IS THE POINT Lane, a simple but correct built car is enough-----and normal people will likely beable to pile up MORE experience IF they don't build a car so far over the top in what is useful that it's seriously ridiculous...

YOU are not the subject, nor am I.

keep it that way.

Tom Buress in his little 2,0 16v powered RABBIT has more than a decade less experience than you and that was a match for the Fire Breathing Monster

Shirt is on John.

*Holds up the glass--

Keep yours clothes on. Please! No-one wants to see any of that. Much better for your blood pressure too. Lipitor will only do so much!

Oh..... rest assured that I'm not of the belief that I'm super at anything. I just partake of it to have fun with friends.

I sure would like to see you on stage with the Saab or whatever other tool you've got.

Too many years go by too quickly.

Bet that my Volvo and I can beat you driving your Ford 4X4 thing.

I'll put up......... A round of your favorite beverage in a bet.

Well, to haul this back on point...

I am having issues finding 240's that are in my area (tristate) can get back on their own power, and not in the might-as-well-just-buy-a-subaru price range.

If anyone knows of one that fits that bill on the east coast, let me know.

Lately I am finding this attractive-

There was a freebie roller Xratty shell in the Richmond VA area, and that's kinda below the bad rust belt--lemme see if I can find it.
If its still around i know it can be temporarily store at either "Fidel" Lawrence Knox shop or "my cousin" Vince "the Terrible One"

Of course everything is available for Xratties and they are somewhat better cars out of the box---but not that the superiority would make any big difference to us'ns. (plural collective us how you say that in "merikanski?)

Well, I guess I might just not be the type to own a Merkur, I kind of like it, it can be a very fun car, but I don't think I enjoy it as much as the Fox cars. So I want to sell my XR if I can get some decent money for it. This was originally Don Haulsee's car which he did a few things to such as the dual Saab ICs in the cowl and the driveshaft adapter with aluminum Mustang driveshaft. Here's the majority of the specs on the car right now:

Balanced, re-ringed Turbocoupe shortblock with about 30k miles now
LA3 ECU w/ big VAM
35 lb/hr injectors
Adjustable CFI FPR
K&N cone filter
Ported intake and exhaust manifolds
Ported cylinder head
.454" lift, 220 @ .050" duration cam (Clevite)
Ford Motorsport adjustable cam pulley(multi-index type)
PT&E SC5031E turbo (T3/T4 50 trim hybrid, stage II .63 turbine)
4" full-length exhaust w/ Dynomax Ultraflow muffler
Dual Saab intercoolers mounted in cowl
4 cylinder T5 transmission conversion
Custom shortened shifter
Ford Motorsport aluminum driveshaft w/ Haulsee adapter
Koni yellow struts
Polyurethane front control arm and swaybar bushings
New BAT front control arms
KYB Gas-a-just shocks
Autometer mechanical boost gauge
Autometer electric oil pressure and coolant temp gauges
Rear mount battery
Braided SS/Teflon oil feed for turbo
New brake master cylinder
CD Player

I have Powerflex bushings for the rear beam mounts, just not installed, and maybe sway bar bushings by Powerflex also, which are included.

Some problems with the car are a crack in the windshield more towards the passenger side, not n the driver's view, it passed inspection here and doesn't seem to be growing, but it's rather long, maybe a foot. The passenger door handle is broken but still works well enough to open the door with it. There's a pop/clunk in the rear of the car when you get on or off the gas. I've gotten most of the A/C in order and installed but there's a slit in the hose going from compressor to evaporator, that's the only thing that needs to be repaired or replaced. I put on a new expansion valve and drier/accumulator, new o-rings.

The WG Actuator is a modified T3 actuator, made to fit the T4 compressor and it doesn't have enough preload so spool-up suffers. It either needs the right T4 actuator, adjustable, or to have this one fixed, maybe even external wastegated with a different manifold.

Tires are mismatched but all have very good tread.

I have pictures here:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v631/tur...uto/87%20XR4Ti/
The body does have a couple small dents that I can take pictures of later.

Okay, so what do I want to get for it? I've tried to get the best idea I can, I know there are lots of mods but a fair share of problems, too. With the 50 trim turbo I think I would like to get $2400 but it's negotiable. I could always put a T3 on it which would spool quicker and be more appropriate for the car's current setup, and bring the price down to $2100?

Let me know what you guys think and if there's anything else you need to know. I will get more pictures at some point, the car is just dirty right now from the recent weather and it's too cold to wash it right now. If there's interest in more pictures I'll wash it this week
and take some.

$1250 now I guess. I got an offer from a local guy but haven't decided to take that yet or not. I'm not in Madison Heights most of the time and very busy generally, so I don't know what I can do to help with moving the car. I drove it a week ago and the brakes aren't great but were usable.

I called the granby ct guy yesterday and left a message... the boston car shows two expired cl ads, and the rest are in virgina, a long ride for a car like that sight unseen.

This is frustrating. I keep hearing how people find so many of these and the V240 everywhere for so cheap. Unfortunately here in NY all i can find is non running examples for 1500 or auto wagons.

the 2.2 turbo cars from chyrsler are by far one of the most unrelieble things ive owned. I had a GLH turbo Omni and i swear something always found a way to mess up. usually electrical.

as for the rotaries, they take experience to become comfortable with them but i and some others i know have done things to them that many an engine would have yielded to. This is in regards to the naturally aspirated ones. to hell with turbo rotaries.

You have to feed those rotaries pre-mix to keep them alive, right?

i prefer to, since it guarantees the lubrication inside the motor and allows for better selection of oils, along with a simpler engine.

body in good shape aside from being faded. been sittin for years, i was gonna do somethin with it but times call for money and not toys. burgndy with black top (2 tone body style) motor is blown (had 1.8 instead of 2.0, DL model), not sure if heads still good. rear brakes gone (calipers and all) Transmission and clutch still in good shape. interior musty but in good shape(dark red seats and carpet with grayish blue dash), been sittin in the shade. no back tires on it. might be able to work out delivery dependin on location. it would be preferred if buyer could pick it up. if parts only are needed send me an email and we might be able to work somethin out. some minor things missing (window winders, some fuses, battery cable) thank u for ur time, really need to get rid of this thing, also have a rare Merkur XR4Ti (only made em from 85 to 88) and some cheap rims being posted if ne one is interested.
Tryin to get 250 or best offer cash and serious inquiries only.

I have a 1986 Merkur XR4TI that I am selling as a parts vehicle, with a NYS title. The engine was removed with intentions to built into performance car, but never really got started. All major components are accounted for: including block, head, cam, turbo, etc. Chassis is in decent shape as well. I also have two transmissions with this car; a manual T-9 that came in the car, and an auto trans out of a Thunderbird Turbo coupe. Pick-up with cash only, no deliveries.

The engine is a Ford 2.3L turbo (LIMA ENGINE) and is the same as a Ford Mustang SVO and Thunderbird Turbo coupe.

88 XR4ti with 49k miles. been sitting for 15 years. needs work for sure but its all there, rust free and straight. 2.3 Ford turbo. will sellas is with all the extra parts I,ve picked up over the years-5-speed, dash, la3 computer, etc. Or sell car alone for 600. Either way its a deal for a great car with turbo and independent rear suspension. Think Drifter! Call Tom @ 308-216-0563
