This surely is a lesson learned. No, the organizer did not transport fuel, but there was a 10 minute "wait" at the gas station so competitors could get fuel.
It has seemed to me at the past rallies I have done, that fueling in service is a no-no, so I counted on the gas station. My mistake. I will always have some fuel at service in the future whether legal or not. The gas station closed as we pulled in, and the attendant said it would be 10 minutes before they could pump any fuel, so off to the stage start we went. Thought it much more important to stay on time then, than the service check in. Yes, we still had a great rally, the stage times we did i feel show improvement for us as a team, and we learned another lesson. Rally on! |

Fueling in service is permitted, there may be a designated fueling area however. Many competitors run 104 or higher which isn't available at ma & pa's store.
Glad you had fun, that is the main purpose. Generally there is always something new to be learned at a rally, typically at some small cost ![]() |

Oooo! Another good lesson in here! (You're certainly getting your money's worth of experience. ![]() You could trust a steward, but the savvy ones won't answer your questions. ![]() You could trust a clerk of course. That's about it. Cheers! Anders Grassroots rally. It's what I think about. |

Why would Dave tell you if they got caught in an O-Control? They probably didn't know whether they were busted or not. It's not like there was a big flashing sign telling them what speed the radar gun had on it. Or did every car have to stop and chat with the radar guy? (I didn't make it to that point in the rally)... Even if they did know, I'm not sure I would expect them to proactively share that... Doug[/quote] There was a 'stop control' sign, everyone pulled in and got their speed, +2(us) or +10 or +22(victor?) onto the timecard Clipboard gave me a significant look as we pulled up to receive the news/penalty. And since we were in a battle I thought I'd try and game it a little with Dave. I think I said shame about that control back there, and he might have said, yup that was a control. |

Mike Milos and I were in the #787 Sentra. This was my first rally so it was all about learning and finishing. Being a n00b rally driver, I started dead last. Tail end Charlie. We finished the rally and managed to move up four positions. We actually beat two Subaru WRX STIs!!!
![]() We got nailed for being over 7mph in the transit leading up to the last stage. 1 minute penalty. I really need to fix that speedometer! Like Anders said, this was one of those lessons. I'm glad that it happened on my first rally to drive home the point (to me) to watch my speed more closely during transits. It was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again. I should have some video and commentary up tonight or the next day. |
