Have you been to a rally yet? how about a rally cross?

Make it strong, make it reliable, add some skidplates and go have some fun.

Rather than destroy a 2010 car, a car which has a warrranty and will last you forever and which hassome things that might make playing on gravel a pain (like those 17" wheels----how big are the discs and how are you going to stick 15" wheels on?, gravel tires are only commonly available in 15" as max so whaddya gonna do for brakes and wheels?)
MAYBE it MIGHT be smarter to start with a cheap 200-400 buck car you can beat to deaths and not worry---and keep the Kia for getting around in.....

Then whe the inevitable happens and you bang the car into something, you have pissed away the value of your No1 ride..

Unless money is no object.

Is money no object?

you could run rallycrosses, but i think the prep and cost stage rally will amaze you.

That's what I'm thinking too!

When you can't afford a second car (or service truck), you absolutely can't afford to rally your daily driver! (I said afford, not that you don't want a second car or service truck).

If someone found a way to get on stage for under 10k (including the car prep, safety equipment, entry fees and transport to the event) I want to know how they did! I tried to do some budget but it was around that without counting the car (I have it already), any co-driver's gear (hey he should pay for his own hans, suit and seat) and for a one day rally that I would not even have to sleep away from home.

I know renting stuff (or borrowing it) could get me on stage for much cheaper, but if I build that Volvo it won't be for only one event, so it would be wise to buy all that stuff.

I currently race my daily driver, not well and definitely not on a stage, granted my car is 18 years old and most likely has 200K miles more experience then your Kia. i would suggest you find a beater, Cl is your only friend. fix it up drive it to a rally x and have some fun, if you can drive it home you did your task. fix what you broke and try it again. attend hill climbs,TSD's and even auto x's help. volunteer to hangout in the woods and marshall a rally, see how it works then contemplate how to make your big debut. i see you are 20, any chance you have a career that will support your new habit?

i dont plan to compete it or anything i just want to be able to go have fun without trailoring another ride there and if it dies either leave it or tow it out. not saying it would be fun to have a beater to just destroy and i have had my share haha. plus im in florida and there isnt to much i could do around here so plowing into something isnt a worry of mine lol and me and my dad have an autobody shop where i can have free work haha. money, well i am on a budget but nothing isnt feesable so just give me some help with what i would need to do to be able to fly around on some grass and dirt and go have fun when its just "one of those days". soon enough i will have a beater and me and my brother will work it up and go romp the crap out of it.

ok, so what it sounds like to me is that you want to rallycross your dd but have it look like a rally car inside and out?

I'm in Florida too (Sarasota), and our options for "rally" events here are pretty much limited to rallycross as far as I've been able to find. I think there might be the occasional TSD, but I haven't seen a stage rally anywhere in the 17 months I've been here. With that in mind, you should be able to rallycross your Kia without much trouble here. Still, I'd think having a beater rallycross car would be a safer way to go to avoid the inevitable unfortunate broken part. I watched an well prep'd WRX frag a control arm at an auto-x this weekend, and that was on nice smooth pavement, so you can imagine there might be the potential of such things in rallycross events. Just something to consider.

BTW, I'll assume you're aware of the local SCCA rally organizations. If not, be sure to check out rallyflorida.org. And be sure to check out the Tampa event this weekend if you can: http://www.rallyanarchy.com/phorum/read.php?1,43169 .
