Doo Wops 2011
November 11, 2010 10:48PM
I noticed that DooWops is on the calendar for March 19th, 2011 (only one day?) with Recce on the 18th. So far that's all on the webpage.

For those who would like to do a little cone squishing for warm-up there will be BSCC Practice and Autocross events in February and early March (dates will be posted when the schedule is finalized).

The final schedule for DooWop 2011 is still pending. Recce is being considered but not finalized. 1 day versus 2, again... also being considered.

Still working on roads before we can confirm all details.

EVERYBODY I have spoken with says "2 day, no recce"..

My impressions: skip Blue Slough, no real excitement, too straight. Waste of valuable time.

The other uphill then 4th and 5th asphalt, same thing--not really interesting and very VERY high speed..
Aren't we all supposed to be concerned with safety? High speed is inherently sketchy.
There are PLENTY of NARROW, not wide, maybe a bit bumpier connecting roads in that area, get off the mainlines onto the smaller, narrower roads.
More gravel miles.

Blue Slough is not part of the plan, it was only included to increase overall stage miles. We are out of available gravel roads. We've been working on roads for 18 months. DNR, USFS and local forest/timber companies and are all a no go.

And not EVERYBODY says 2 day, no recce. It was just an idea, not a final decision. Personally I don't care either way. I'd much rather race, but someone has to step up and try to continue events in the northwest. Since the financial burden for this event is solely on my shoulders, it will be what I am financially willing to risk as far as road fees, volunteer goodies, etc I can endure.

I said everybody that I have spoken with, nothing more.

We have in the past used the same roads 2 times one way, next day once one way, once the other. How far afield has been looked at out of curiosity?

Seems like there's a lot of roads South and East of Raymond and South of Brooklyn, anybody ever look at those?

So go check em out and make some calls about availability and let her know if they are viable options.

JVL, you're right, there are a lot of roads (some really good ones too, that we have asked permission to use) in the areas you inquired about. Much of these areas are DNR or Weyco.

We have covered everything we can find land ownership for west of I-5 and from Port Angeles south to Hwy 6. It's either commercial timber, small plots of private timber run by commercial companies, DNR or USFS. Over the last 18 months we have had more than a few discussions with all of them. Since I live 3 hours north of this area, I must rely on other past, and current organizers, to source roads since they have lived in these areas their entire lives.

Re-using stages is a must, especially when the stage miles continue to dwindle. Eventually something will work out, but the last 2 weeks have been bleak for rally road approvals.

Merrilee does make a helpful point, the more people that are out there looking and making inquiries, the more likely we are to make a break through.

Why don't you?
What are you doing that keeps you from doing it?
Aren't you closer?

Aren't you friends?

(in other words, can the snippy attitude...)

I'm 4 miles from Portland. I dunno if it's closer or not. Wasn't trying to be snippy, you had a question and I was pointing out that you could find out the answer to that question just as well as she could. From the sound of her posts I'd bet she could really use the help. I'd enjoy a two day event, but I'm just as happy to volunteer at a one day event. Either way, as long as I don't run into money troubles (and if Seana can keep herself out of the hospital), I and a handful of my friends should be there and working.

Any spare money I have (which I really don't have) is being used to go volunteer at the Big White Winter Rally in two weeks. Since I couldn't secure a shared ride I'm covering all the fuel up myself. Luckily I was able to talk a friend into going with me and am picking her up in Seattle on the way. She's never been to a rally in any capacity and I'm hoping that she'll enjoy herself and maybe volunteer again for future events.

Out of curiousity about the "aren't you closer" question, I googled mapped basic directions from Seattle to Raymond and then Vancouver to Raymond.

124 to 128

Give or take a few miles due to actual home locations and road locations which I didn't use. So, I'm not closer, but I'm also not farther.

Merrilee, you actually want about SeaTac. As sigs arent showing up, Johns actual address is not posted but he's at the bottom of 405 on 518 or whatever the hell that road is.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=SeaTac,+King,+Washington&daddr=raymond,+wa&hl=en&geocode=FQ4W1AIdgYS1-CnTZFnHbFuQVDFGtlKtHbIieA%3BFRlhyAIdNvyf-Cl9YvnNLLGTVDFIP0Yce-OjWA&mra=pd&mrcr=0&sll=47.077604,-123.016663&sspn=1.29435,2.90863&ie=UTF8&ll=47.245678,-122.563477&spn=1.290262,2.90863&t=h&z=9

So, he's 114 miles. Even closer, lol.

bah, I'm not worried about who is closer and what's so few miles anyway really, I was just curious since it was asked and did a general look up, I didn't put my actual address in either, so may be that for me too

Hey Pussy, why don't you go kill yourself?
Or ask somebody to do it for you since you can't finish anything yourself.

Obvious troll is obvious Timmy.
