A classic prepararion book is available again in a new reprint.
This is especially nice if you have a Merkur Xratty BUT the drawings and procedures are so detailed that many ideas and concepts can easily be crossed over to other cars. We have hosted here scans of the book that preceeded this "Ford Escort Rally Preparation" edited by Graham Robson, and we have scanned the books covering cars that came after: the Sapphire 4x4, the Escort Cosworth in GpA and GpN, WRC Escort, F2 escort, but this isn't scanned and anyway you can carry a book around and read it anytime. Get one!

Yes! that is the words carved in stone on the pedestal of the Founders' statue---which the pigeons are crapping over. That was a great Documentary of what College life was like for some of us. I lived with a bunch of film makers in a commune in LA who were all USC or UCLA film majors and above the door was a sign: Delta Kappa Alpha (fourum won't support Greek font ) (droppa kappa acid) Edited 1 time(s). Yep. Knowledge is good. You guys really ought to download and print out the other books for the comparison of parts as time marched forward.. It is really interesting to see the how in this book so many parts are re-worked original and fabricated by welding steel parts like the early lower control arms or the alternator and PS pump mountings and how those parts suddenly are done in CNC aluminum parts beginning in 1990 and really ramping up by 1993. like this: Here's the thread with the scans: http://www.rallyanarchy.com/phorum/read.php?5,4777,page=1 Edited 1 time(s). my copy just showed up here at work. very cool to look at this stuff in print, even if the quality isn't pristine (which the publisher acknowledges). Looking forward to sitting down and actually reading some of this over the holidays.
(thanks for the heads-up on this, john!) |

I dunno. There's 7 here i think. William Timmins has 5-6 now at his place, Sean M has 2-3, I can think of a number of rollers for $100-200 maybe 5-6 more... They're not all getting scrapped, they end in getting sat somewhere. Rapido Russ "Mr Seat belt---you better be belted in when he says the prices" Harness has about 75 or 100 in Eastern Oregon. But man it's getting scary how few decent non BMW suitable cars are available. Haven't seen a Commodah in the scrapper for a year. Happy Christmas to you too Wilson, sing Heilige Nacht for us! |

SWMBO has 2, one daily driver, one parts roller/driver, XR owners are a lot like Capri owners, I've only got 3...
On edit: Is there such a manual for the Capri?? SteveL This is the point in the killing spree when you really should turn the gun on yourself Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/23/2010 02:53PM by SteveL. |

They're still relatively available. I missed one 5 speed, non-sunroof, no rust one for $700 a month or so ago. Looked Friday but had to go to a stupid wedding, went back Saturday morning and they'd sold it. There was another one a week later but it was an auto with sunroof and I really didn't want it that much. There's plenty of parts availability with all the specialized recyclers/hoarders. People always get worried about windshields, but I've not had any issue getting them for $100-150 and apparently some Chinese company is now making them regularly. The amount of rally specific parts that are affordable keeps growing too. |
