I was referred here by John V. and I'm going to stick around and see what kind of info/entertainment or even parts I might pick up while I'm here.

Anyways I'll introduce myself like a person and not like a dude on the net.

My name is Adam, I'm 26 and Im a Chinook mechanic stationed in Korea but soon to be Fort Campbell,KY.

Here a few sweet pics of what I do at work.

I have an 89 XR4ti that I am using as my current project/daily driver. Here is a picture of the car when I bought it. A lot has changed since I bought it appearance wise. I painted the grille, bought some Ronal Turbo 2 wheels and added the Biplane wing.

Here are a few pictures of my last(sloppy) project...The XR will be different...

Welcome. You may like it better here, John is allowed to speak his mind, and it is not so clicky. Just people that like to thrash on cars like they deserve, and not polish them with diapers.

Helicopter mechanic! Nothing wrong with that! I spent a few years working on chinooks and vertols! Mostly worked on rotor blades but also repaired and rebuilt combustion liners for the t58. It always amazes me that those blades dont go flying of into space with the little bit of material that holds them together!

Hey Adam,

And another welcome.....jsut back from the Sandbalst rally myself. When are you relocating to Ft. Campbell? We do business in the south central KY from time to time (we'll be in Bowling Green on Tuesday, in fact..) so we might be able to get to gether sometime when we are out there.

You will be in a good position for several good rallies:
Rally TN <2 hrs
100 Acre Wood 4-6 hours
Sandblast, Rally WV, and Sno Drift about 7-10 hours each

So what are your rally plans? Are you going to build a that Merkur into a rally car? If you are looking to biuild a car, feel free to ask about cage stuff.

Also, Jason (????) is on here who I think is also in military avaition and who is down in MS I believe.

Mark, don't think he has any plans for a rally car----at the moment.(brough ha ha ha ha!!!!!) But I think he understands that an awful lot of the motor/brakes/suspenders/gearbox and diff stuff we'ze doing is directly tranferable to a fast road car.

Way more that the "stick on a monster turbo and some blingy rock hard springs " mentality that infests the on-line Xratty world.

And Jason "Frumby" was in Mississippi but was transferred back to NAS Whidbey Island, about an hour and a half North of Seattle.
If fact it's time for a cage for him, oughtta give him a call.

There is a Xratty fellow named Dustin Melton in Tenn or Kaintucky who bought JVAB Sooooper Bitchin rally suspenders. Ought to check in and encourage him to get 'er done.

As far as the stuff being transferrable to my street car, yeah I get it. I'm building" a fast road car" and well, I've watched a few vids of rally cars on a road to know they are fast on them..lol

The monster turbo idea hasnt totally escaped me yet, as I'm really interested to see what can be done with twin scroll stuff..... The EVO guys seem to do pretty good with it...

Building a rally car? Yeah Might be able to afford that....BUT the time and money to use it more in the woods instead of driving it around like some show car to ricer meets and car shows....yeah dont really have that ...sad smiley

just a note on the twin scroll thing: as far as i can tell those only seem to work on very recent OEM set ups. The jury is hung on just slapping some twin scroll thing on some cobbled manifold. Seems to me like a "chasing wee percentages" thing compared with getting a good solid set up know---from experience---that works.

the Evo turbo I did a restrictor for had a compressor wheel and turbine wheel within one red c**t hair of Escort Cosworth compressor------which ain't surprising since they are aiming to make a killer Group n car and max size is mandated at like 69.7mm. Exhaust is same too.
Now the HOUSINGS that they use are physically a lot smaller but what the hey, they work great so the can't be tooooooo bad.

actually about to do some googling to compare the EVO Manifolds to a b234 flange...and go from there.

Noone wants the stock turbos on the EVO and they spool pretty quick and should be all of the poop I need. Especially with .3 liters of extra displacement...

The bolt pattern is similar in layout BUT you would need to lay the gaskets on top of one another..

So who wants to do the leg work? I can do nothing from over herewinking smiley
