Greenmachine! Talk to Bill Caswell, he's on facebook. He just finished the WRC Mexico in basically the same car.

Hens! You can continue clucking!

You might also want to talk to Ron Erickson. He co drove for Caswell in Mexico and I'm certain crawled all over that car.

mark, i DID get a little distressed over my II, mainly because of johns bashing on the car itself. i'm new and wasn't familiar with johns...way, so i got offended. the notion of the abuse the car will take is what has the most impact on me. maybe i would rally a II if i had one that was in worse shape. the fox body is also on my list of possible cars.

frumby, i know rallyx isn't rally, but it's still fun and cheap. sad it kind of fell through in the st. louis region.

discoveries today....the 325i at my work has some really rough points about it. the windshield has not been in it for a long time (but there's still no rust through the floor pan...?) so the dash and every thing in it is fucked, it seems like. it's a good thing the rest of the interior is not needed because it's no good either. also it was an automatic and the engine is shot. so it is basically only a good chassis/body. i know i need at least the basics of the dash to function; lights, turn sigs, blower motor and i'd be surprised if any of it does.

is that ron erickson from rolla (i think), MO? if so, i used to rallyx with him. the civic i used to own was his at some point. THAT definitely wasn't worth making into a rally car...the floor was barely in exsistence. the decreased weight may have helped me win though!

Found you a nice 240 for next to nuthin less than an hour away.
Nice guy who's on here and the St Louis guy know: George Beckeman.
Oh look here's one closer:

I have a 1989 Volvo 240 dl 5 speed that has 130,000 on it . It has Michelin tires that have 90% tread. The gauges need some work and the speedo works off and on but it runs good. It also has exhaust out the passenger rear tire side rather than the back .Some things just need to be looked into with someone with time to do it. The interior is in great shape with a nice stereo. It needs some work but for a 22 year old car its in good shape. This is a nice retro ride. Let me know what your cash offer is or trade. Thanks

Yep, that's Ron from Rolla. And show me a rally car at minimum weight, and I'll show you a fragile car.

well, he's worked his way up the rally ladder since i last talked to him.

found an '87 toyota cressida on CL, has anyone used one as a rally car? it shares the supra power plant so i'd think there would be plenty of aftermarket support for the drivetrain. i've always heard they are pretty durable.

Just how many Cressidas do you think are going to be around in 5 more years?

Plan on buying everyone you can find and sticking it in a field on blocks, cause I don't think anyone else is saving them. (maybe there is a raving cressida perv club hoarding them somewhere, who knows)

What's so wrong with the Volvos?

Cressidas are awesome, but not very suitable for rally. Very heavy car, like well over 3300 lbs. Big, looong wheel base ect. Not many around.

On a side note, I have been helping a friend put one together for drifting. Twin Turbo Supra swap on stock management made 300hp at the wheels. And that thing sounds awesome at the 7800 rpm rev limit.....

Good link.. with that, the win _this year_ in F-Club (that mega competitive finnish rally thing) and cheap to free shells would be all you'd think one would need to know.

I bet a Pacer is up next for bench racing grinning smiley

andrew, nothing is wrong with volvos. i was just asking...remember...i'm a newb like the subject line says.

and sean, the cressida weighs 150 lbs more than the 240, so yes a bit heavier (but w/a larger engine), and its the same wheelbase, that's why i asked.
