I can't believe I did this. It was the right move and I'm sure Gene and Brent will make good use of it but damn I really liked that car.

Be good to it brent, and by that I mean full throttle, opp lock and a huge smile on your face. smileys with beer

Pat we can always dig up another. They're out there.

Ya know, if you really don't want to get rid of it we'd understand. Otherwise we'll be down there between 12 and 1pm Sunday, your call.

hell no Gene. It's yours now. Just reminiscing about the fun times. There is actually a large part of me that is glad it is going to someone in rally community rather than me fixing it and selling to joe somebody

Speaking of sedans. I may be receiving two that I am considering building for offroad use. How is the sedan for rally?

Yes, early-to-mid 80's 240 sedans, both automatics. I would have preferred 2-doors for the functionality of the big front doors but these will be free to me so I can't complain.

Few cars are easier to swap autotragic to manuel.

Of course they are excellent cars.

Just think of the crazy ass MkII Gp4 Escorts we all have seen a million videoes of.
Now those are inarguably the coolest car in this parsec of the Galaxy but that's especially true when the going is NARROW and very twisty.

But in North America, we don't ever have roads that narrow and that twisty, closest was Cherokee trails way back.

So for our North American roads, which are bigger, wider and fast, the 240 should be rightfully looked at as just a scaled up---very well balanced--MkII Escort.
They're pretty darn good out of the box, engines are surdy, they update back date easy, and there are clear well defined upgrade paths.
The length engenders confidence.
Steering is accurate.

Weak point is definitely the old school wide ratio gearbox, but certain far sighted, and forward thinking, and dashingly charming Rally Anarchistas have made it so easy to install a Borg-Warner T5 from a GM V8 powered car you'd have to be crazy not to!!

Look for the V8 T5s, then you have a box that will still tolerate fairly short axle while having a first gear you can use (2.95 first gear)

Although the Merkur is a better car and has quicker steering stock and forged pistons stock, it's not sooooooooooooooooo goood that it would make any difference in results over a 240--gearbox and axle being the same (and I mean the same--2.95 gearset and same 8" Toyota stuff in the back, only IRS for Xratty, Pick up for Volvo).
