so, i am seeing a few peeps from the greater phx area posting on here.. and i ask (keep in mind im a total FNG to this whole rally thing.. and my question is not asked in sarcasm but in general ignorance) why dont we have any rally events here in glorious AZ other than prescott?
sorry but nor-cal is just too damn far for me.. i wont even tow that far to race motocross.. i saw on some website (CRS i think) that there used to be an event in quartzite, and another one planned near casa grande or florence or something.. what happened? as far as enviro-nazis go, AZ isnt too bad i dont think, or is it? i mean, hell.. they let whiplash put on races all over the place, why cant we get a rally? oh, and on a side note.. if a few of us put a little interest in, i bet dan from speedworld would do a rallycross.. i asked him about it a few weeks ago and told him they do rallycross at glen helen and he said he would call and ask them what it was all about.. so yea. maybe someone with more knowledge than i possess could get something rolling on that front.. just an idea... |

For a while, it seemed like the majority of the California Rally Series stage miles were actually in Arizona. ![]() Quartzsite/Desert Storm/Plan B - Pretty sure these all run on the same group of roads out near the border. Harquahalla, Sore Finger, you drive right under transits every time you make the drive. The last couple times I crewed for Laughlin, we ended up driving halfway back to Phoenix to set up service (in Wickieup or something). Prescott is awesome and you should make a point of showing up every year. (It's totally worth it.) You wanna work the event or help out at service for a team, sign up and you can ride up with my wife and I.
I agree. The drive to HDT a few weeks back was the first non-Prescott rally I'd been to in about three years. It took me just over seven hours non-stop from Glendale. There was this really excitable bloke at the HDT awards ceremony with cool glasses who had a LOT of good things to say about this new event in NorCal. He was even telling me about how great the fishing is up there! By the time he got to the one-time emissions testing, I was sold, but it's another five, six hours from HDT! Sorry. I can't justify spending 24+ hours in the car to volunteer at an event.
Speedworld is a great idea. If you have a relationship with someone up there, please work that connection. There is a smaller group of rallyx enthusiasts in the valley looking to organize a series of legitimate events for years, now, but we can never find a location. If we just had a location willing to let us run 2-3 times a year, we could probably find 10-30 competitors per event, with an eye toward growth and becoming part of the CRS series (which would bring some California folks our way). We're even willing to help maintain the facilities as part of the deal (fixing fences, planting trees, painting, that sort of thing). Check out http://www.azrally.com/ (not as busy as it used to be) to find more locals. Brian Driggs | KG7KCA | PHX, AZ | 89 Pajero alterius non sit qui suus esse potest |
