Yo! TNAIDCTL (The new and improved Dave Clark the Lesser) That guy selling the Toiletta Commoda on Craigslist has the 2,0 motor i wuz telling you is a a good one, the 3RG or whatever---twin cam 8v, ya might wanna see if he wants a reasonable amount for it.
Vern Johnson and John Sparks, 2 formerly pretty darn fast PNW boys had those in their Commodahs and those thing worked gooooood. I think they were 150 bhp bone stock and came with 2 x 45 Mikuni/Solexes---JDM of course.

Can parts be found to rebuild/work on that engine? I know its a good one, but I want to make sure its serviceable. Especially when a turbo'd 22r is a possibility...

I think those motors are pretty much extinct these days. The old 2TG and 18RG twin cams. I installed several of those back in the middle 80's but last time I checked with the importers several years back they just laughed.

I wouldn't mess much with a turbo 22R either. The newer 2.7 4cyls are as bullet proof as any engine I've seen. I've seen them go past 300k with nary an issue. The old 22r/re could hardly go much past 100k without head gaskets, timing chains, timing covers, oil pump leaks not to mention they didn't make much power even when injected. On the other hand they did add to my retirement quite nicely....

The 2.7 2TR-FE sounds great! But wouldn't I need someone with a degree in computer engineering to make it work in my ol celica?

Or were you referring to the 3RZ-FE?

Yeah that is probably a better idea although the 3-GSE ---Celica All-Trac motor-is still a damn good idea.
The one advantage of some of the pick up thangs is they come N/S.
Some sense of proportion though---it seems they do a 2,4 that looks better in basic bore/stroke etc. (might actually rev past 4800!)

The 3S-GTE into a RWD car swap requires importing the oddball diesel bellhousing from Australia or make your own. Toysport in LA might have one laying around but it's unlikely.

I still don't see the harm in boosting the piss out of a tired 4 cylinder.

Well that's not sooooooooooooooooooo bad since I have a couple happy Volvo-pervies who got my Sooooooper Bitchin piston and rods in their ex works Volvo 240 Touring cars and they lurv me now.

It snot like you need a new bellhousing every event, eh?

Oh tim, all them 50m shocks arrived, how long you want in the front?

Also, the 3rz exhaust ports are on the wrong side. Again, not the end of the world, but its another thing.
