Back in the good old days when men were men and they didn't need any of this fancy, newfangled "safety equipment."

Jeebus. I don't even wanna know what the bodycount in that vid is. It's amazing the number of 'em that were seen getting up afterwards.

The key was to have no seatbelts or cages so you were ejected far enough from the vehicle to not get hurt?

Brilliant!

The stock cars actually did pretty good in those wrecks.

This should be used as marketing for that new rallycross thing they're trying to get off the ground. I'd sign up.

I love those old race cars, but yeah, I have a hard time watching certain parts; I really don't want to be "entertained" by watching a man die in a wreck.

That was real hard to watch, i remember being tangled up in a BMX bike rolling end over end down the street... Remind me never to drive a 3' wide speedster without a seat belt.

You're all a bunch of softies.
These were men who had grown up with war, disease, famine, starvation and worse than any of us will ever experience most likely. This made them feel alive. Sometimes the risk is part of the reward.

Actually, I don't think they are. This is very similar to bike racing, cept slower with more mass. Kinda like arguing whether a light fast .223 bullet is worse for your future than a big slow 45-40, ya prolly don't wanna git hit with either...
I also agree with Grant though. You can't safetygear all the risk out and if you could you might make the thing not worth doing in the first place.
