You're a sneaky jerk.

And I refuse to believe the flat was faked. Like us, those drivers are all out to just have a good time and enjoy a spirited and fair contest of speed. winking smiley

How bout that drama on day 2? scandalous.

What drama are you talking about?

I'm assuming you mean the tactical fake tire change by Mikko?
I say it's no different than Citroen slowing down on day one to make sure you're not first on the road on day two.
Let's look through Ford's perspective.
Loeb is third on the road behind Mikko (2nd) and Jari (1st). Ogier is 4th.
Mikko stops on stage to 'change a puncture'
Restarts strategically in front of Loeb.
Loeb loses so much time that he will not be able to be in the lead by the end of the day.
Mikko loses a ton of time, but it also means he'll be battling for fourth and end up in better start position for day three.
It's now up to Ogier and Jari Matti to battle for the win. If Jari can keep from losing too much time due to road position, he should be able to make it back up on day two.
Keep the machine Loeb out of the lead and go for maximum points and let the two young guns battle for the win and hope your man comes out on top.

Exact same strategy I would have employed if I was manager.

Yeah I was talking about the flat change.
I don't think that they faked the flat as a strategy. And I don't think they did anything wrong by letting mikko go. I just thought it was funny to see loeb so pissed off when he totally had it coming. It was his fault for purposely getting behind the ford guys so he didn't have to sweep the road.

As much as I don't want to think it was faked, the timing certainly seems to point to that.

Unless mikko was driving significantly faster than he had been earlier, the gap on the road between he and loeb was < 2 minutes. In the three years I've been watching WRC and IRC, I've never seen someone have a flat on stage and lose less than three minutes stopping to change it. Maybe Mikko and Jarmo have one of the fancy 5-lug guns that Puegot had back in good-old-days. Maybe they're just freakishly fast at changing a flat, moreso than any of the other top-level drivers. Or, maybe there's more to it than any of the broadcast or teams are letting on.

If those boys can legitimately change a tire (including stopping, unbelting, etc.) in under two minutes, then fair play to them.

If it's just tactics, then it's pretty lame, but only slightly lamer than playing the road position game the way they are.

Even the reporters at the end of the stage were surprised at how fast they changed the tire, and asked him about it. Videos are up on WRC and Youtube about it. The fact that they have cameras inside the cars makes them take even longer before starting, because in the old days they would start while still buckling but since Seb got penalized last year or 2 years ago for his navie unbuckling before the car came to a full stop they're super careful about it.

Tactics or not it seemed strange thats for sure, specially since the teams SMS info back to the drivers to caution them about people from behind.

Mikko in Catalunya had another one of these situations with Dani Sordo, so maybe it is a tactic to just drive like one of those left lane cruisers on the highway and not budge.

Didn't Mikko race on of the team tech's in replacing a front strut once on either the preview show or an episode of Shakedown and only lose by seconds.
I wouldn't be surprised if they could do it in 1:30 if well prepared with quality gear.

pretty sure there have been a few cases this year alone where they've done it in less than three.
