only $68K so far, too bad it can't actually be rallied (chro-moly cage)

still don't understand why anybody would want a 4wd 911...

Porsches will always to me be the ultimate ED indicator. Not to mention they all look the same.

I always thought a 20" lift rolling on spinners was a better indication.

I've always thought spinners were an indication of being a drug dealer or criminal of some kind.

I'm from Wyoming where it seems like everyone has a 20" lift unless you are paying attention, at which point you'll realize that all those people with big lifted trucks tend to be 5'6" tall. In Denver the same applies to crotch rockets.

ED?

I got nothing against Porsches. They're the ultimate Super Beetle.

Then again, my dream Porsches are 912s and 924s.

ED = Erectile Dysfunction, or Education Deficient? Extreme Defiance? nah...

I actually like the fact that Porsche design hasn't changed much over time, find something that works, stick with it, and make the insides better....as apposed to coming out with an 'all new' design every 2 years.

But, I've always liked the Porsche tear drop design, ever since I was a little kid (and way before 'ED'!!), something about those big round Porsche lights always caught and held my attention.

(OK....the classic whale tale was cool too)

Except they started with "hey, let's take a car with a wheelbase shorter than your average forklift, and stick the engine behind the rear wheels. Let's also make the engine air cooled, because water cooling works too well, aaaand... hmm, for the hell of it let's make it drysump oiling too."

For not changing the design much, they sure did change a lot over the years smiling smiley I think the problem with Porsche is that they're just plain obstinate about things. I think the only difference between a Cayenne and a Touareg is which hand you use to start the vehicle, because there's no way in hell there can be a Porsche that you start right-handed.

I was talking about (and I thought grant was too) exterior design. But I always thought the air/oil cooled choice was interesting. My old '80 911SC took 13 quarts of oil!!!!!

and I LOVED the left handed start! I thought I heard that went back to the early racing days, where 'ready, get set, GO!' meant starting from a dead stop/engine off, and you had to start your engine, release the handbrake and GO all at once? So you could start the car with your left while releasing the brake with the right? Same reason the Saab's key used to be down right by the ebrake as well? No? maybe?

I thought SAAB did that because it made it easier to have a Reverse interlock on the ignition.

I will grant you that the Porsche key-on-left thing is nice, mainly because it never interferes with my knee over there. I don't know why it matters, it SHOULDN'T matter, but I never bang my left knee on a Porsche like I bang my right knee on everything else.

Way back last century i was staying at a guy who had worked in competition department for 20 years at Saab and way back when he started--1959---everybody knew everybody...and i asked him if anybody had ever talked about the stupid between the seats thing.
He said that when US DOT mandated something to make the cars harder to steal, everybody decided to to steering locks and Saab injur-nears thought that was totally insane as "what would happen if somebody pulled the key out for some reason?"

So they inter-locked the shifter and started with model year 1969 on the new 99 and on the 96s as well. Met the rule.
And there's no way the steering would ever not work.

Now Bengt-Erik said "really though, nobody would ever pull the key out when driving, so the worries were silly...."

I splained him I've been in cars THREE TIMES when genius boys spout off that "There's no way the steering can lock when the car is running, they built it so you CAN pull the key out...watch.."
2 time on freeway in California, one time here but it was a Californian driving.
One word springs to mind: abject terror. [signs of the cross]

Those gawddam 99s and 900s with the interlock must be in reverse to pull out the key.
10 millions times you shut the car off and wham every time---that lock crap is part of the reason those gearboxes blow up as the do....
