Not much. It was a very nice build. Lots of fiberglass, no excess stuff.

any guesses as to how much that porsche weighs?

Well a 2002 GT3 Cup road racing car weighs about 2500 lbs so I would guess that rallycross car weighs somewhat less than that.

The least it can weigh is based on the width of it's tires....they were at least 225's if not 255's. So anywhere from 2250-2550 lbs.

Hello!
Will not really remember how much the car weighed when we drove in U.S. but around 3000 lbs, the engine is an original 3.6L Porsche engine with original gearbox (6 speed for a top speed over 160 mph)
The springs are three way Öhlins

The tires that we ran with are made for rallycross, similar to the tires they used in four wheel cars. We drove with two brands Avon tires and MH tires with different hardness. On rainy days we have tires that are cut in different patterns.

Hello there. I was in the white Ford Sierra, and tried to get your crew some battery chargers for their camera.

Did you ever get any prize money?

kris, did you like the rock in your grill? - racing starts at 1:15 - crashing later.
http://contour.com/stories/global-rally-cross-2wd-heat-1

the porsche launches at 1:25 - this was the first "race" - it was odd to start racing when the red light comes on.

Mathias,
Thanks for the RallyCross advice, - always be the first to the corner!

There is a different kind of adrenaline when the racing needs to happen NOW.
there is also a different kind of car needed. we were helped by gravel tires and a wet track.
MOARR POWER!
we'll see how we feel if there is a 2012 event. - concrete is hard.

Hi
Thanks for your help with the charger.

We received the prize money.
Unfortunately, it looks like there will be no races for 2 wheel drive next year.

Thanks for that. That is probably how the headlight got busted.

Glad you got the money--it was sounding like it wasn't going to happen. I never got my trophy, which is a bit of a bummer.

No 2WD races next year? Is that even in New Jersey ones that Rally America is doing?

I agree with Adam, the only reason why normal stage rally cars were able to compete (somewhat competitively) in this format was because of the weather. If I knew we'd have a place to go racing, I'd seriously consider building a car just for rallycross. I had a ton of fun, in a lot of way it was easier and more fun than stage rally. Logistically easier, some serious adrenaline, it added strategy (something I don't typically use on a rally stage). Very cool sport.

Seems like they could link up some sort of rallycross course at Paciifc Raceways using the parking area, big grass lot, etc. Same with the super special stage that we've run at Portland International.

yabbut where will you put the gap jump? you can't have rallycross without a gap jump!

just ask those yurro-peeins - they've raced for 40+ years without a gap jump, earning nothing but sweat and tears. Now that we, the forward-thinking, EXXXXXXXXXXXTREEEEMMMMMEEEEEE americans, have introduced the gap jump to rallycross, sponsors are throwing money at anyone with a car to go race it.

According to Paul Giblin, they are running 2wd cars.

In fact yesterday on Facebook he said "Spread the word everyone...these events will be awesome!!! If you're a frustrated SCCA or NASA road racer, you really need to give these events some thought!! They'll be perfect for your RWD racecar!!!"

I'm guessing, since they seem to think they're now a big name pro series, that those who are interested and think they can afford it, will pick up the phone.

I don't imagine you can find much entry information for Sprint Cup entries on NASCAR's public site - probably not even for Nationwide or the Truck series (which are, for those who haven't just looked at the NASCAR wikipedia article, some of the lower-end/maybe-could-be-considered-grassroots series).

Direct quote from GRC in November: "the reality is that 2WD has less than a 2% chance of being part of the show in 2012".
