Looks like fun. Shame the there isn't an easy 4 cylinder motor that somebody wanted to build. 4 is more.

Better.

What is easy? Not an S14. Maybe an F20? What's got good horsepower out of the box at a reasonable price?

On the other end, what about the ubiquitous LS1/T56 combo which comes out almost exactly the same in weight as the iron block M20 with tranny? 325 horses on the low end, nice torquey 8 cylinder.

Is there no BMW that look like with normal mods couldn't deliver enough power when combined with appropriate gear, like 5.1?

I prefer topless rally groupies to ones holding video cameras. Of course, I think you have to go to Quebec to find the ones that you want to be on the side of the road topless. Back woods Tennessee maybe not so much. smiling smiley

if you see only video people and you honk the horn, i hate you. why are you honking the horn and not going faster? yes i see you, i'll probably see you again. i also see how much faster you could have gone.

I'm going to install a horn button for Allison at LSPR with instructions only to honk when we see you. I'm also thinking of retractable mudflaps so make sure you're standing on the outside of a corner.

Grant, I wanna see topless groupies!

Mark, everyone I know that honks a horn is a codriver with their own horn button.

Dave, retractable mudflaps LOL

I've been thinking of installing an on/off toggle switch for my horn. That way at stage start I could just flick the switch and be done with it until the end of the stage.

I was working a stage at TN in '04 or '05 when a young, very attractive gal drove up in a pickup to the control wearing only a bikini and asked whether she could drive into the stage to the secret spot where she sunbathed!

$$$ since it is late model. And not all that out of the box w/o a serious investment. Might as well do Duratech the way you are talking. Since this is grassroots, that is not in the cards.

I had considered trying to drop a stock Evo IX motor in it when I first got started since I had one sitting in the garage, and LS1 swaps are pretty straightforward, but Rally America won't let those swaps race, so that was the end of that.

Only 4-banger really worth a damn was the S14. But from my quick looking, it was going to be $5-7k for a basketcase motor. $500 craigslist car...lol.

I also looked at MetricMechanic which was one of the few sites where I could find build packages for the 1.9L motors. Basically If you're gunning for ~200hp it was far far cheaper to drop in a stock S50 B30 engine. Yes, it weighs an extra 100 lbs, but since we're not racing for real $$, I'll gladly deal with the weight penalty and eventually use that $$ saved on an entry fee. LOL FWIW, on my 3.0L I'm 100 lbs over the Group2 weight/displacement tables without a spare and other stuff.

You know RA changed the rules, don't you? Now you can drop in anything you want.

Nice video Wilson.

Matt:

Hooper sure can pedal a car. New nickname is "Dances with Roads." If our Michelin slicks hadn't self destructed (they were three year old takeoffs from an Irish team - lesson learned (for the second time - first was running 13 year old NOS Bridgestone Potenzas at SB a few years ago that blew up on the first stage)), I think we would have been in the running for 1st instead of 4th on day 2. We were literally running on two different kinds of street tires.

See you at WV?
