The 2.5 ratio isnt super important to me. What is important is that I need a rack that is capable of being lengthened to 28cm and still be safe to function. I don't know much about rack and pinion steering units but its the only way I'm going to be able to achieve the maximum angle I need. Is 1 800 jac rack a real number? And I cant find anything on this xratty rack

I think the total travel of a stock unit is 18cm. I need it to have 10cm of more travel.

So lets say a certain schmuck had the 2.5 quick rack internals that is being spoken of here. Think some of the Volvo loons on this site might point this said schmuck in the right direction for finding that amazingly difficult to find manual rack. What is it 76, 77 only??

Well I might say that the certain schmuck might oughtter a0 try the fawkin 1-800 number I posted above so munificently and then I'd say certain schmucks would maybe say "Yo! Doooods! Y'all have some manual rack cores you can drop my internals into?"
Then if a certain schmuck had a certain level o' brains he'd sell the whole she-bang to the dorifto guy here who needs 18" of rack travel or whatever the fuck he's on about for moar drift angle.
More drift angle is vital, so I'd sell the Volvo crap for the cost of a 2.6 Xratty PS rack, plus core and plumbing and mount her in.

Certain schmucks oughtter realise the days of manual racks passed before he was borned-ed.

Who knows?
There are a number of reasons I don't pay a lot of attention to 747 K-cars, aside from the hideous styling so I can't say, Maybe..
You get Jardevalls old car?

Yeah! I'm calling the bluff JV. I have been hearing this jive about the xrati steering rack in the volvo since last century!

I'm going to try it, give me a hint and tell me where I can get one. I have yet to see an xrat in the local pic'n'pulls, I guess they all migrated to Washington and New Hampshire.

240 and 740 steering racks are the same, so it "should" work on a 740. but there are lots of things that "should" work.

Ya gots a point there. Ok I'm gonna call Al and give him some grief in general (you know, like taunt him that he didn't call me to co-drive in
I'd a Ho', the color of his car etc) and talk about this.
There will be piccies.

Cody you're in the Portland area are ya? Lemme see if I can find a core down there.

Woof, believe me homeslice, I wish we could head out to Iderho. And don't be dissin' on the 740, or the 940 for that matter, they are just 240's with boxier fenders ( squarehead design triumph of all time!)

But the later boxes have 109.1" wheelbase, which is good for interstate cruising, not so hot for initiating turns on loose surfaces. There has been much preaching on this here board that a good compromise for our fairly fast rally roads is about 100" wheelbase give or take a couple inches. Volvo 240 is 104.3", XR4 is 102.8".

My brother-in-law called his daily-driver 740 "The Grey Limo." It was more reliable than his XR4, though (although I think he drove it like McRae on a meth binge, which caused the multiple engine grenading incidents).

And another 5" of wheelbase, and unless youse use some madz modz skillz and 4 link the axle, then you have a whopping 2 lower and some shit contraption on one side upper.....not a biggie, just build boxes and link it.
