![]() I was talking to JVL yesterday on the phone, and he said "Hey, I heard you have some new stuff for organizers, don't just say that on SS!" so now it's over here too: Here is a "what can NASA Rally Sport do to help you organize" list: http://www.nasarallysport.com/main/Organizer-Support I've completely redone our old "Appendix A" of the NRS rule book and obsoleted it with a web page that downloadable forms like a stage start log, stage finish log, inquiry form, red cross page, et cetera. This is stuff you could print out and use right now and it's ready to go. http://www.nasarallysport.com/main/resources Still working on the "Letter to give to land owners/governments as an introduction to rally", but a preview: http://www.nasarallysport.com/organizer-resources/RSIAB-Sample-Intro-Letter.pdf Under "What does NASA Rally Sport do all day?", well, actually, we go to work at our jobs. But at night we're building tools and programs to make having rallies easier. ![]() And actually... in a week or so I'll have a new post in the "OMG! The next thing to save rally is almost here!" thread. ![]() ![]() Anders Grassroots rally. It's what I think about. |

Wow. that's a lot of good info.
Have you been in contact with anyone trying to restart a rally in southern ohio? I don't know them at all, but they seem like the right kind of dedicated folks who ran the sunriser rally back in the day. http://southernohioforestrally.com/info.htm Their main issue seems to be getting access to roads. How does that process usually work? Are there any popular end-runs around simply submitting forms to a cratchety and uncooperative agency to obtain the road use permission? I would think indirect pressure via the ever popular banner of local economic benefit would be the best way around this road block, but i can see how every situation might be a bit different depending on the state vs local vs county government, who holds the authoritah, and who would benefit. |

From their web site:
So what do you think? ![]() I kid, I kid!!! ![]() That's Jeremiah Johnson's project. I haven't spoken to him, although I've gotten regular updates on the status of it. To my knowledge their goal from the very beginning was "getting on the RA national calendar" so there's not much of an opening for me there. But the area they were considering is now quite developed (compared to Sunriser days) and so that task is now exceptionally difficult and expensive. Cheers, Anders Grassroots rally. I'll never understand why that becomes the end goal? Do people think they'll make a bunch of money organizing a national rally? Nice job Anders. I may be getting laid off at the end of July. I'll definitely have time to do some leg work on some of my ideas if that happens, provided I can swindle someone else into buying fuel. ![]() |

That specific part of the goal may be a bit difficult, given that 5 of those 7 drivers no longer compete in the series and 4 of the 5 no longer compete in stage rallying. ![]() -Brian |

IF things go well a RA National can put some money in the organizers pocket, but it flows out of that pocket at an alarming rate. It is an expensive, time consuming affair. Having the Top Guns show up and the circus that follows is pretty exciting. Seeing the crowds of spectators, screamin kids, happy local politicians is kind of rewarding in itsself.
Just the fact that ACP is now a close friend and Niday and Hurst are people I have good relationships with is a huge reward. Thru nationals I've met Buffum, Millen(s), Halley, Juha K and Juha P, Jon Woodner, Moro, Dimiter, Andreini, Jimmy, Satch Carlson, Bill Holmes and God knows how many other really neat people over the years. Hard to put a value on that. There is a fine line between priceless and worthless, neither spends well but oh the memories (those don't seem to stick well any more though...) It may be pretty hard to get national status without a few years of sterling regional performance. Also the speeds of the national cars can regulate which stages can be used or add conditions to the stage...the dreaded chicane thing. It is a bit easier to go before local landowners with the polished RA program and media hype than as a bunch of regional hooligans in old Volvos. Sorry but its true. At the end of the day its kind of like that realy high maintainance blonde chick that is in the back of every guys mind. Not always worth the grief but there is the constant allure... |

Can't tell you how many spectators asked me about Ken Block or Travis Pastrana at Brooklyn while I was walking back across the western spectator area. Quite a few. One group was actually like, well shit, if we'd known that we wouldn't have even come. On the other hand, that was the first time a spectator asked me to film his penis. I told him I didn't have a zoom lens and kept walking. Oh magic yellow tape...

i do not have the experiance to put on a full stage rally. hell the i have marshalled at a few events but still, i just dont have the experiance. Maybe a 2-3 stage day and a half affair to start. the vacinity to team Oneils is not mutch of an issue. i was looking just north of "south branch lake maine" on google maps and there are plenty of twisty roads. questions is if they are passable.

Twisty is good. Passable is good too. Don't think the roads have to be perfectly smooth like pool table. John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Pacific Standard Time is 3 hours behind Eastern Standard Time. |
