I've used my stock STI quite a few times with no issues at all.
I never go with a support crew

Air up the tires, and realize your car is not invincible and you'll be fine. if you get some really bad ruts developing (depends on the site) just make sure to Not slide sideways into them. if you are sliding sideways Towards them, steer into them so your front tires (and steering parts) stay happy.

you can also learn how to gently drive into the ruts and use them for cornering help. smiling smiley

bring air, water, oil. a spare tire if you have one (or a set) uhm a jack and tire tools. bring a camera, sun screen, a cooler with snacks. and enjoy your day.

personally i say leave your sway bars on. taking off the front sway bar usually "feels" better, but slows you down. at least the few times i've done testing my times always get worse taking it off. I've taken them off both my STI, and my 93L , both times it slowed me down (but actually felt better) the name of the game is still taking turns fast. removing the sways and having lots of body roll doesn't help you there at all.

I have seen some guys with higher spring rates (autox/ track) disconnect their sways with good results though.

First, thanks for all the helpful tips... I took many of them and they served me well. In spite of being well prepared for worst-case-scenario possibilities, the entire day went completely without issue.

Post-event report:

The car was awesome, and even with temps in the mid-90s, it stayed cool the entire day. I was mediocre behind the wheel, but I was starting to get it towards the end... I need to work on the timing of my flick for sure. As for the course, nd the back half was f'ing miserably muddy and slick in the morning. It was actually very annoying... front half was pretty good, but then it was like hitting a sheet of ice the moment I'd make the turn into the back half. Luckily it dried out a bit in the afternoon and they rearranged the barrels and cones to get us out of the deeper mud and ruts. My times dropped by 50-60 seconds per run.

Anyway, a couple pics of the XR's post-event mess:

That is not "in spite" - it is because you were well prepared :-).

You're right of course.

It wore that mud with pride... right up until the rain washed it all away on the drive home. BTW, you can only imagine the mud caked on the wheels and wheelwells; great globs of it clumped off after every run.

Erhmm... no can't only imagine... check the video from this event 9 months ago: http://www.rallyanarchy.com/phorum/read.php?1,42362,42362#msg-42362

4-5 times after the event I was still washing out lime, and some parts of the car still has this white-greyish shade of lime to it... it really doesn't just go off with the pressurewasher... need to get a brush to it, and that's hard to get to in all areas.

Despite that I'm doing it twice again this year - first time this Saturday smiling smiley

Try running on a horse track that was freshly watered to keep the dust down.

A year and a half later, I still have horse-track cement stuck to parts of my VW. I groaned a the DRSCCA National Challenge a couple weekends ago when they watered part of the course just before my run group. Went from fast and flowing to suckfest. And then I broke the one part of the car that I didn't bring a spare for.

You guys must run in puddles... if you hit a puddle in Florida, it might very well swallow your entire car. Seriously.

BTW, here's a vid of my second run of the day.... first was even slower:

And my second afternoon run... a bit faster:

Yeah, we might hit the occasional puddle here. Way to show the merkur colors at your event, just watch it... rallyx is a gateway drug.
