Nefr was a blast, we only made it 11 miles into the 4th stage before the tranny gave up on life, but we were fortunate enough to brake next to a broken saab and spectators with a decent liquor stash. Saturday I ended up crewing for 466, brian and pat made things interesting, coming into the last service with some broken rear suspension and a hole in the transmission. We replaced the suspension bits and duct taped a funnel we borrowed from srtusa to the trans for easy filling. The boys ended up using all 5 bottles of fluid we sent them out with. On the last stage they center punched a tree and lost all there coolant. They were flat towed back for 90 minutes and crossed the finish line and finish third in 2wd for the season.

The RallyHo Saab popped a hose, then a headgasket on Friday. Found a random guy in service who knew a guy in town who knew Saabs, so we raced over there, and while he didn't have the headgasket we needed (2.1 liter out of a 93 900 convertible), he did have a list of every Saab and import parts department in Maine right there, so Mike's brother David worked the phones and found one.

Drove to Portland to get the gasket set from beside the dumpster at the parts store after hours, came back about 10 pm to the head off the car, crew installed the gasket (I mostly drank beer and threw tools...I know my talents), and at about 2am Brett and I took it for a beat run. Yep it ran, seemed fine...guess we'll try it.

Saturday, car overheated again (shocker, I know, especially since we had to reuse the head bolts and who knows how straight the head was at this point). In addition, a transmission cooler line came loose, melted on the header pipe, and the transmission fluid pump then acted as a flame thrower under the hood. Fortunately, shutting off the car and dumping both fire bottles into it put out the blaze, but that was it for the weekend.

Chevalier and Moody had a good time destroying most of the stock XR4 wheels I sold him last year...but the car held together fine and the JVAB suspenders did a great job.

Quote from the press notes: "-Tim Chevalier and Alan Moody broke another rim and bent three more, so they are ready to toss the stock Merkur XR4ti rims and try something else. They said the John Vanlandingham suspension worked extremely well in the rough conditions."

Well, if you play the words John Vanlandingham backwards, it says "master of the beasts". tongue sticking out smiley

They were stock 87 XR4 wheels, which make most people vomit anyway, so most would see it as a good thing that they were reduced to scrap alloy. He also has 4 Ex-squirt GT wheels. When I sold him some (and gave him more), I was under the impression that he was going to rallycross the car for a while, not cage it a few months later...

We had a great time. rough roads. going to need a few things for repairs but we did about as well as we could have expected to run and didn't have any flats. here's a "short" video from the 16 mile Sturtevant Pond Short (Long was 19miles).

How did the PROM chip work?

Thanks.

I did some baseline testing last weekend and it ran fine but the mix needed work and just wanted to run what I knew for Maine. Just didn't have the time to play around with the maps.

makes sense, events can make for very expensive testing if something fails.

Great roads out there - Good to see some old friends and say hi, great to put a bunch of faces to names.
Great roads and a lot of effort put in by organisers. Interesting to see the event from the back of the pack.
In the end, I've renewed my dislike of superspecials that take place in something that isn't on real roads. Other than that it was a flippin' good time! :-)

Matt, you've done some events with the Saab wheels, any reports, assessment, opinion, E-pinion of these 9000 wheels?

I mean if'n Tim just smashed up some Xratty wheels maybe he's all worried the Saab wheels might also be cheese-oid, ya know.

You going to West Virginia?
