It sound alot like Steamboat, home to the rallyformerlyknowasrallycoformerlyknownasCog.

With a great location, there's no excuse on the PR side Steamboat was rally crazy on rally weekend, downtown streetparty like no other. There was a stage on the main drag parc expose for crist sake smiling smiley

All drama and the hundreds of other issues aside, I don't know what WRC quality stages are like, but in my mind that 21 mile stage sure did feel like one. Thanks to all of the workers that kept the rally going this weekend.

Sean, Nice to meet you at the rally. Good to put faces with names. And great drive by you and your co-driver.

The stages were fast but good. I was expecting a lot slower roads compared to the other stages that around Elkins, but this one was still lots of fun. The road held up great and actually got faster as the event went on as more of the loose gavel was thrown off and more of the hard bed rock exposed. Probably would have been crazy slippery in the wet.

We had a trouble free run until the last service when the clutch pedal broke with in 1 mile of service. It ended up breaking the plunger for the master. We fixed it with some JB quick and a section of a metal bodied ball point pen. I will take a picture when I replace the master before the next race.

Hopefully it will be better organized and promoted next year with more workers / spectators out there. If you count the bikes this was one of the largest if not the largest entry list at a rally in the US this year.

Hey Andrew,

I am betting that it won't be slick when wet. The 2006 event had torrential downpours and did not get slick or break down. The key is in the dirt and what it comes from.....yeah, for real. If you go to the western part of the same county (Webster), the dirt changes to a rusty colored slate based clay, and it gets slick there, just like STPR. But not in the upper Gauley basin; too much granite and limestone and harder shales in the dirt and rock there.

I wanna see the picture of this repair. Very clever!

Hello Mark,

Interesting on the rock type making the roads less slick. You have spent more time around that part of WV than I have, so I trust your experience.

So if it rains next year and I go off because it gets slick I am going to blame you winking smiley

Nice to hear of a new proper length stage being used.
I also wanted to see my avatar again.

I heartily agree.
On both counts.

Next time you happen to get up into STPR country, looks at the shale; a very peculiar iron red. Whatever is in it, it gets as slick as greased dog doo when wet. Similar to NC red clay in that regard.
And feel free to blame me, Andrew! But, it'll just so happen that "Sorry, I just plum clean forgot my tow rope, buddy...."spinning smiley sticking its tongue out
Regards,
Mark B.
