I wish i could have bought Matthew's old two car trailer from Mark Cox.

Wait? You have an STI daily driver? There's your first problem. A 90s Impreza or Legacy is the only way to go. Well, unless you're mostly concerned about fuel economy in which case a Geo Metro or old RWD Toyota. I paid $200 for my Impreza, $3 for the oil pump o-ring to stop most of the leaking oil, and $150 for a radiator after the cap failed and blew up the radiator. I also splurged on some 2004 WRX seats for $200. Then again, I have different priorities than most. Sex, drugs, and rally cars. Driving on the street is annoying not enjoyable for me. It doesn't come down to my car it has to do with the other people, that and I don't like spending money on transportation. I like Subaru's because they can be lots of fun in snow storms if the snow sticks around and people stay off the roads or in industrial areas and the mountains.

Then again, sometimes I really wish I had air conditioning. Then again, I like never having to lock my car anywhere and being able to fix it anything on it cheaply and easily.

I'm probably looking at 6,000 miles in going to and from rallies per year.
$3500 in gasoline(or diesel) at today's prices is ~ 12250 miles or 2 years of rallying for me

so you are selling a suburban for $6000 that will tow just fine? (or know of one) hmm...

14-15 mpg is it a diesel? I'm liking the sound of this ... would just need a 1 way ticket to said suburban and a pre-approved loan from my bank (or any bank) hmm.....

I might need to jump on that .... hmm.... smiling smiley

No, my dearly departed Dad's 92 thang with EVERYTHING!!! to pull a 38' Airstream for $4000, not 6000. Just turned 90,400 mil 3-4" of documents.

Even the AC works.

454 gasser, right?

JVs 'burb tain't a bad deal. Hard to find a decent one for under $3k with way more miles. It has a roof rack so there is that opportunity for additional storage or massive driving lites or a roof mounted tent.

3 to 4 inches of documents, hmmm, probably unpaid parking violations...

Zoning violation notices, cease and desist orders, Craigslist ad printouts, six copies of How to Prepare the Sierra for Motorsport and Boo-Boo kitty pictures. And a couple of PepBoys receipts.

Gene, I dun't a know-a fer nuthin about 'merkun vehicles but I got a guy who is talking to me who was saying he's interested but since his sweet wifey will be driving it---and it might someday snow, he was saying he wanted 4wd for the widdle woman.

This thing has a nice LSD in the back and good tires, and I dunno, I see fools stuck with their 4wd junk here in town just as frequently as open diff fwd crap...

I said get some studded snows and floor it and it'll do fine...
(and not be hauling all that 4wd nonsense around the rest of the time)

I'm thinking it is a TOW vehicle, don't need 4wd to drive to Canada, and pile some pig-iron in the back and it'll get ya to work and back just fine...

And I've always thought that the bad 'merkanski "4wd' with open diffs etc just got you another few yard before you got stuck worser-er.

Whaddya stink?

In reality a 2wd burb with posi will drive just fine in most snowy conditions. Our winters just ain't that bad and mostly the roads are kept pretty clean. I don't think I had my truck in 4wd one time last year. Real icy days and heavy snow you're poked anyway around here. 4 wd just gets them in trouble.

I sold my Silverado 4x and replaced it with a 2wd F250. 2wd offers less maintainance, a bit better economy and usually works. The newer electric 4xs may or may not work on a given day and the old grabba shift is pretty hard for ladys to use in some rigs.

I'd tell him buy some killer real snow tires and ferget the 4X unless they go to the mountains a lot.

If it was not so far away I would have bought Jonh's dad's suburban instead of the one I got for almost double the price and twice the millage (but at least it's 180k kms! so not that bad).

It is for me the perfect tow vehicle (even if I don't have a rally car to tow right now), it's perfect to go to the part store when the wife is gone with my car, perfect to get to work when same wife need the car during the day and even more perfect to tow my almost 20' boat anywere I want. Except that for now I can't because something is fu/$%%ed and I can't seem to find a competent/honest mechanic to fix it!

I'm even tempted to dump that one and go buy John's, but that would not be too wise. I'm sure it's not a big problem.

Maybe someone here can help me... the problem is simple, I can go to any speed I want keeping the throttle about 1/2 way down or less (went to up to 75 towing the boat... just to test it), but as soon as I floor it, it downshift and the rpm get stuck between 3k and 3.5k and the speed stays the same until I lift the gaz. Then it upshift and the speed raise again... I've been told by a mechanic that it was my fuel pump.... I think he tought I was dumb or something. He probably did a descending sort on common suburban problems and picked the first (most expensive) one!

It's a 2004 with a 5.3 vortex btw.

So all that to say, go ahead and buy it (JVL's one not mine!) before I go insane and do it!

That sounds very much like low fuel flow due to defective pump or clogged filter. I would change the filter 1st. If you have a fuel pressure gauge, put it on there and drive it. at WOT the pressure should be 55psi or close to it. If that checks ok, you need to check exhaust back pressure. You can buy a back pressure gauge for $40-60. Threads into the O2 hole. anything above 4-5 psi at wot is cause for concern. I have seen them peg a 20psi gauge and still run sorta OK.

I agree with Sean. You can have decent pressure and low volume so change the filter no matter what. These days I see filters getting crappy in a year and 12,000 miles. Seems like for $4 a gallon the quality would be better....

5.3 has no dizzy, advance is ECM controlled. Toss some SeaFoam in just because. Could be exhaust but it sounds like it recovers too quickly after shifting, so I'd suspect fuel as the primary culprit. Although we've seen more than one MAF failure and some really wierd symptoms with that.

Is the converter plugged up? i had a similar issue on a car not at all related to yours but the symptom was the same. maybe its worth looking into then fixing with a hammer. in regards to dirty fuel clogging the filter i would have to dissagree. i believe and understand the air that replaces the fuel in the tank is the culprit. Sure the filter can get clogged as it is its job and for the money it cant hurt to put a new one in to rule it out.

that bus just screams gas mileage... er not.. but on the bright side, you could probably drive the rally car into the bus with some modifications.. then we can prep the car while driving to the event.. a procrastinators wet dream! lol
