Speaking of lessons for today...Today I learned that the M14 stud would be illegal in a NRS logbooked car. (3.11.4)

I interpret that rule to only apply to cars that are changing from bolts to studs. if you already have studs, you are within the rule. Anders should revise future versions to say equal or greater size.

Wow thats a first. Ive never seen a series restrict the size of a wheel stud before. In oval you wouldnt make it threw a night of racing without a stock stud and wheel failure. I ripped the lugnuts threw the wheel in my first feature race. I was told I needed 1" lug nuts but I thought those guys were crazy. I messed around for years on the back roads and never had a wheel problem. That nite cost me a wheel, tire, spindle, upper and lower cotrol arm. But I guess thats not rally so you should be good to hit a rock or somthing.

I agree. But since all the golfs/rabbits come with bolts, they're bound by the rule. It would also stop one from putting MK3 VR6 spindles/hubs (five bolt) on a MKI/II. But if the car started had started with studs...not a problem.

MKIII+ get a pass then. The 5 bolt versions were all M14

Much of the NASA rule book is very old Austrailian copy carryover. I only worry about a smaller stud being used. We really need to sit down and do something with that rule book.

Can you give me a more specific location than "rule number 4"?

Of course it makes sense you could use larger ones. Unless we're talking about stock class, where the philosophy of what you're trying to accomplish with stock class heavily influences what happens. That's a discussion that hasn't happened in a while.

But we have so few people running stock classes right now. There was _1_ (of 27) at Rally West Virginia. There are 2 (of 30) signed up for BRS.

If Rule 1 were amended leaving out reference to maximum sizes would eliminate the need for rule 2.
Rule 3 is very good!
Rule 4 should just allow wheel studconversions . Who cares if they weld a hub and switch to 5 lugs or Subaru bolt patterns?
Rule 5 ....not sure we need any concern on extractors. I have no experience with them. I guess they could fly off and decapitate a worker or spectator but we don't have a rule to prevent tires or mufflers from falling off...

speaking of brakes...can someone steer me in the right direction of adjusting the proportioning valve? im tryin to find something that tells me anything on this new fangled interwebs and in my bentley

You turn it to the right it increases rear brake, you turn it to the left it decreases rear brake.

I believe the no extractors rule is to keep it an even playing field. There only the size of a dime so I dont think they will decap any fans. They are used to maintain tire pressure. You set them at 30 psi your tires will maintain 30 psi or less. If the tire temps go up and the pressures rise to 32 psi the valve will let pressure back down to 30 psi. Ive ran them in the past. I took them off after a dnf. Debris in the valve give me a flat under caution.

Hmm...I thought it meant the devices to pull additional air thru the braking system, but I don't get out much.... Thanks for the info. Either way its a silly rule. Equal tire pressure has little or no effect on leveling the playing field in reality.

Maybe it's protecting us from ourselves? If you've got a lot of moisture in your tire, when it heats up on stage the extractor is going to let a lot of air out. Then the tire cools down on transit and you end up with a flat tire.

well there goes one vw proportioning valve. .

I think your wright. I guess that rule should be re worded. I was thinking tire bleeders.
