I tried the screw in studs on our MK2. I kept on rechecking the lug nut torque and they were always loose! So I got tired of that, and decided to switch to ARP ones (Honda, super long and bullet nose 5pk is $14). When I went to remove the studs they were basically hand tight! That was with loctite!
So me experience with screw in studs is no good.
The ARP bits took a bit of machining in the rear disks to get them to clear, about an hour total on a lathe. All you really need is a 15/32 drill bit, a drill press, and an evening.

I believe the no extractors rule is to keep it an even playing field. There only the size of a dime so I dont think they will decap any fans. They are used to maintain tire pressure. You set them at 30 psi your tires will maintain 30 psi or less. If the tire temps go up and the pressures rise to 32 psi the valve will let pressure back down to 30 psi. Ive ran them in the past. I took them off after a dnf. Debris in the valve give me a flat under caution.

Yo Jeff, in the context of rally cars and rally RULES prohibiting "extractors" mounting to the outside of the wheel----the rules are referring to very skinny discs which you can see on the fronts in this very Soooper Bitchin piccie of a very Sooooper Bitchin car:

Now I gotta go read some cool comparison of works cars on this nutso good French site i found..
Gawddam they dig deep and post so much archival stuff, amazing.....same in bikes, amazing,

Here's another, not quite so soooooper but clear.

So your whatever "tirelief" or whatever is one thing, but rally rules prohibiting 'extractors' refer to these things which were once the rage for those asphalt pervs----and which indeed MIGHT be capable of cleanly slicing off a speccie's head, considering how cheesily that some peoples would mount them...

Thanks JV, that is what I always had in mind when I read that rule. I can only imagine how many souveniers we'd have around after a rally if those were used.

Well now you see the violence in the---wait, wrong taunt!
Now you see some advantage of being er uh having been around and involved 20 years ago when these were the rage--in Europe---on asphalt, and knowing they were banned by FIA start of 1993 season.

And ya also know that the US rule was simply adopted and sat there without thought or purpose for nearly 2 decades.

Now today's lesson:
Vatanen 1987 1000 Lakes works Ford Sierra. 2nd OA against a fleet of Lancias, GTX, Audis....Blomqvist 3rd..or vice versa,,, whatever it was we long sighted sorts knew the Xratty could be a car capable of any OA result, if the driver had skill.

Ain't mine but I have the key to the shop. Manual lathe, 4 CNC lathes, manual mill. Across the way is Blanchard surface grinder, a mile away is kake's with a couple more CNC lathes and 3 multi-axis CNC machining Centers for mill work.
Here's the latest NEW! NEW! NEW thing:
Volvo steel flywheels

Here's other things:
Volvo 8 and 16v steel cam cores:

Volvo to Borg-Warner T5 gearbox bellhousings

Volvo 11.75 x 1.25" disc and alloy bell;

Yeah a variety of things.

Whaddya have in mind?

With those dirt track rotors for them volvos, how do you get the calipers to fit. Different calipers, a spacer? I like my volvo's brakes, but THOSE WOULD BE AWESOME!

You don't need calipers...those hats are so pretty that spectators jump out and stop the car to get a better look.grinning smiley

We got them under the BBS looking Volvo 15", under the 'Sirius" 15", and under Omega 15"things that look like Compomotive TH or Sparco OZ.

More piccies are taken but not uploaded yet..

I use the same specific Wilwood Forged Superlite that I do on the Xratty set up:

Very powerful, yet easy to modulate just short of lock up.

Todays lesson:
the most important performance system and the most rewarding in terms of better stage times and safety is the brake system....
These brakes are good enough brakes that you are on par with, par--parity--with the top cars in the US in terms of braking--hairsplitting of 1% type stuff excepted (Sure sure AP calipers are better, but at $780 a caliper I don't see many Anarchistas de rally buying APs).

SO: if we can have torque like anybody else, decent ratios like anybody else, at most speeds we do stages good enough grip, similar or same final drive, and now brakes as good....

What's stopping you from top 3 stages times?

Well, the quick release adaprt gear is welded to the steering shaft. I need to get of seperated so i can swap out the upper bearing since its toast. But, the gear is too big to get the old off much less the wiper/turnsignal switch off. Trying to figure out how to remove such critter.

ummm ... thinking that hairsplitting of 1% things don't add up to measurable pace gaps?
