Yep Dave, we are on our THIRD S54 engine in an autocross car. High RPMs took out the oil pumps in the first two even though we took the precaution of welding the nut to the gear face.

Fawk me! I's here a jist a-wipin' my brow and thanking Bogu that I was lucky and decided to like cars that the oil pumps only cost $50 for the bitchin one from Melling---and which I have never since 1980 heard of a failure with.

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1175553

Somewhere in there "Oh, I'm sponsored by Auto-haus or whatever so it cost me less than the $1500 it would have cost otherwise"

$1500 for an oil pump and sump?

$1500 for an oil pump and sump!

On a sort of related note, Grant, I should have your front stuff ready to ship in 2 weeks. Do you care if it is not painted?

I don't care one way or the other! Stoked!

Figured that talk about the blown motor is probably better talked about in the build thread for the car so anyone looking at the build will see the progression, successes & failures all in one place:

It's a shame he's just too hip to call and/or send his front stuff up for freshen/update now while there's plenty of time--the car being apart and all. Really he doesn't need to call, I could pretty well guess is some nice washed and clean Xratty stuff arrived from Colorado, and when it was refreshed and updated I could look on Facebook or Twitter of whatever the latest toys for boys is and message him that way..smileys with beer

John, what has changed? I think I have the first set of XR boingers that were done. 1-2 years before Grant's. Yes, I know I need to call about this and a list of other bits.

Only a 2.5L, and sale pending, but maybe...
----------
Complete E36-E46 Road Race engine, as built for SCCA World Challenge Car in 2003. Built by Rebello Racing for Wheels America race team. BRAND NEW, was a spare but was never used. Aluminum block and heads, billet rods, 11:1 pistons, large capacity BMW Motorsports oil pan, and M3 camshafts. Motor is 2.5L and is complete valve cover to pan. Originally cost to build was $10,000+. These engines were making ~230 whp with restrictor plate on stock intake manifold and should produce in the ~270 whp range without restrictor. Engine has zero hours on it. Perfect for race car or street car.

We picked up this engine in late 2007 directly from Wheels America Racing, and it has been properly fogged and in storage since that time.

Looking for $2500.obo
