Am I blind or .....do those rear stays/a pillar run past the hoop, and do not connect on CL?

There is something odd and not even remotely legal looking about that cage, though I know the car has run in the NW.

What's a FWD tread pattern?

GTX uses small diameter tires, like most G2 cars.

Yeah, sprints was the last time I saw it. In fact, I think I was in it the last time it *ran* (or rather, attempted... the strut popped off the control arm as we drove to the start line... )

Cage is original SCCA and meets Appendix 1 for RA. The 1/2 laterals are a bit unconventional but hasn't been an issue in the past.

That, and since the gearbox is made of unobtanium, a proper final drive is likely nonexistant.

Hey! quit hating on the GTX, just a stock one will slaughter a wicked tricked out bunny. (oops, did I say that?)

Plus, it aint unobtainium if he already has TWO EXTRAS...

The GTX I bought for my dad was a hoot to drive. It had the old Tokico Dirtra struts in it and it made a bit more boost than stock. When I delivered it to him in Maryland (where he was living at the time) I took him down a 1.5 lane tarmac road and scared him pretty good! Loads of fun to drive! It was a bummer that I missed the leaking fuel tank when I bought it (fortunately at that point Mazda still had 6 left in the country for replacements...in 2001). But it went like hell. Then my dad decided to ottercross it instead of using it as a commuter car (which is what I bought it for him to do, but no, he commutes to work in an an F250 instead...). Just when he FINALLY gets the thing set up decent for the ottercross class he was running, he sells it...of course the center diff puked right after that...but we won't get into that fiasco.

If you have two spare transmissions, run it until you blow one up, then contemplate selling with a spare gearbox!

Oh, and I think you can use a Miotter LSD in the back of that thing, IIRC.

Yeah and I'm shooooooooooore that all the taper roller bearing pre-loads, and we should note that virtually every shaft in those wonderful boxes sit on taper rollers---and the preload is done by select fit shims placed behind the outer cup in blind holes in the case---I'm certain that all 8 to 10 taper roller bearings were checked as the book says cause the preload is hyper critical so any smrat mechanic would get the dead nuts right cause if you didn't then the shaft supported by the bearings would note be centered right and if the shaft moves those dozens of microscopic tooofies will not fully engage their mating tooofies and ziiiiing there goes all the tops of the toofies...wait, that's exactly what every GTX box does!!!

So those 2 spare just have to be set up perfectly.....

Except what happens when that big complex aluminum housing gets all roasty toasty? And expands and um gets longer???

They do get hot and if those cases grow, which they do, whassa gonna happen to the hyper-critical bearing preload and shaft alignment and tooofie engagement???

Better not get hot!!!

I betcha that's why all the real fast 323s had those big gearbox oil coolers way back then. Why those buggers were bigger than the stock Volvo oil cooler for the motor! Well there were only a few real fast 323s, and in 'Merikuh there was only Millen, and he shore as shootin had a gearbox oil cooler, so I betcha this car does too... cause all this is obvious as hell as soon as you open one a deese up.
