Hungarian tops the leader board for Gymkana (including news about table tennis)

The Swedes and Norwegians are into rallycross - who'd a thunk

And the best is that if you speak "Tagalog" you're into Max Attack - and you come from either Singapore or Seattle grinning smiley

My rally is faster than your rally----neener neener!

The word in motorsports context and generally RALLy is understood. Even in Chinese. Even in French...

And the word "racing" is understood in every language I know anything about to mean "road racing"..

Only since the rise of Intra-webs forum and Video games.
Now the meaning has been totally decimated by people too disinterested in learning the general consensus of opinion at this point in time...It's really irrigating.

(I wonder how many clichés and malapropisms can be found in that one sentence?)

Anyone who has crossed the border between the US and Canada (Particularly going to the US) knows that the common understanding of Rally is a gathering of people to commemorate or protest something... or both.

If I say I am going to a race, they ask where and when. Occasionally they challenge that there isn't a 'track' there - last time that happened when I was on my way to Portland OR, where there IS a track - so it was a tactical ask.

Even hauling a rally car, if you say you're going to a rally you're in for a game of 20 questions.

Doesn't matter much to me what they call it...

I used to get worked up about "rally" versus "race".

Found out there were many other important problems to worry about.

Also, I'm enjoying attaching pithy images.

Unless I missed something - where is the:

1) yelling about the rising cost of safety equipment
2) RA is killing rally, I'm only running NASA events

If your head has expired, can you use expired equipment?

Makes me glad I bought an FIA certified one. I was mostly thinking for use in Canada and eventually overseas but turns out it worked out better here too!

HAHA! I was just thinking that! Great minds think alike? haha

On a small sidenote, the gymkhana trademark thing is pretty stupid. I'm surprised they even GOT that trademarked, as certain things you cannot (such as commonly used names).

Even at $15/pop I'll be able to recertify quite a few times before my used 2002 HANS costs more than a new one would.

And I wouldn't be surprised if FIA implements an expiration. Seats expire, belts expire...why would a HANS which is carbon/fiberglass like seats, and webbing like harnesses NOT expire?

Although I will say that logic doesn't stop the cynic in me from cringing at this and thinking it's just another symptom of having manufacturer led safety standards.

I could see it both ways.

The stresses put on the hans in normal rally driving are probably pretty small, even with some of the slower/more gentle side and front quarter nudges. But if you get a big one, you should probably get it certified.

It's like a helmet, even if you dont SEE damage, if you got into a BIG wreck, you should replace it. The foam could be collapsed and the shell ok.

The party line has always been that UV is the worst enemy of harnesses, and since you couldn't guarantee that cars were stored inside, you had to assume that the sunlight had been damaging the webbing all those years.

As an exercise for the reader, I leave it to you to imagine how many HANS devices are left in the sun for five years or stored outside.
