I say leave like it is. People just need to realize that rally is an achieveable goal and rules won't make that happen.

I've always thought any effort to limit spending is a waste or time and a nightmare to enforce.
With 2WD you can't buy your way to the top.

Pretty much.

Just limit the turbo. Once you get to a good gearset and suspension, the rest has a far greater diminishing returns for dollars spent.

JV that was quite a while back and doesn't seem to be the current thinking from either sanctioning body.

Yeah but the tendancy is always lurking, the 'brilliant idea" or "The next BIG THING" that is going to lead to "the bereakthrough"

A plan like that does have some business merit tho. IF you had a higher 'standard' and income level then in theory there would be more money flowing all the time. In reality we see that doesn't work. In tough times even high end business fail right beside all the others.

Yeah, there's a war on..

A war against the working and middle class.

We don't force anyone to race beyond their means. You can run with a cheap car or used tires. I don't see where you should expect everyone too.

Yep and that's the Beauty of 2WDâ„¢.

Limited traction means a natural limit to power to the ground..
Sure you can make a high strung, peakier 260 bhp n.a. motor and buy a 'spensive close close 2.1 first, 1:1 top box but can YOU keep the foot flat?

We don't need lots of rules, the gravel is the natural limiter.

What if there was an association that had a set of rules that ran along with the current rally rules. What if your car fell into this rule set and you were eligible for cash to race. Don't you think cars would be more apt to come race? No limits on cars- 2WD, AWD doesn't matter. The criteria would be a safe amount of good tires to race and a cap on engine and suspension costs. At a quick glance 24 of the cars that ran Black River would be legal for this plan, (not sure if all of the Impreza's have turbos), so this could be off. If 24 cars paid in $25.00 that would give a purse of $600.00. Now lets say the association gets a sponsor like Lucas oil to kick in another $2000.00, now there's $2600.00 to pay back to the smaller race teams that can't afford to race with Strusa. Remember this association is for the drivers so all effort put towards getting sponsors brings the $2600.00 even higher. I'm not sure how 100k a year guy makes a rally more money then a guy who makes 75k or 30k. The event fee is the same for both. Yet if you could get 20-30k a guys to compete and still get the 100k guys to compete then the rally will make more cash.

I don't agree with the assumption that people aren't because there are too few and easy to understand rules. There is already a place for people to play. BRS sort of had a 2wd prize pool but it just didn't materialize. You also might want to look at the cars again because most would not fit into your idea. My car wouldn't and its pretty simple and cheap.

There are plenty of people operating within their means. If you are not responsible enough to race within your own budget you probably shouldn't be racing. If you want to win, it helps to have a bigger budget.

Most guys say they find a group of cars that are close to there cars and compare times. With this association you will get paid to compare that guys times.

The prize pool that was set up for 2wd was a good idea that could have gotten a lot bigger.

This is the same concept except its for 2wd and awd cars that fit the rules. This idea also gives people the ability to use the association to create more outside sponsors.

K tuner if your car doesnt fit because of the lsd then maybe that should be looked at. I Was thinking more of cost and do you really need it to be fast. If lsd is a must and within the spirit of cost then fine this is a concept that can be fit to work the best.

Jason Smith finished 3rd at BRS he could of made $475.00 or more based on the pay out i showed before. Thats 2 tires and gas for the next rally.

No, guys find driver+car combos that are close to their time.

When he was running his VW, Chris D and I had similar builds...I still didn't measure myself against him, other than as a "how many sec/mi slower am I?"

Seems to me, if people are blaming their lack of entry on guys having more money than them...they'll be just as likely to blame it on guys having the money to enter 4-5 more events every year than they can.

K turner what is so different about your rally car that it doesnt fit this idea? Compression, Lsd ,trans, Breaks, struts or all of above? If someone offers you $10,000 for your car would you sell it?

If RA or Nasa were to get on board with this idea would you try to sign up or turn your head and say thats a stupid idea?

This horse will never be beat to death. It will just go away until some one in a few months post how theres no cars and wonder if they should even attempt to build a rally specific car. So I guess I will post this idea again in a few months! Unless someone with the know how and connections actually tries to do something about it first.

Unless we get it to the point where you'd have to be working at McDonalds to not be able to afford the 4-5 events per year. To get there we need to minimize towing distance, entry fees, organizational barriers, build expense and maximize number of competitors and reliability. In other words, a local series based around a specific car but not exclusively that car but specific and advantageous to that car is ease of build, availability of parts, extended testing and development (implied ability to develop) of components to add to reliability (that is the part I worry about on most cars, ie BMW E36 multi-link rear), ability to grow but not necessarily a need.

I haven't read everything in yours but guessing it's more or less a Ponzi scheme since you're talking about people making money but I'm not sure where that money is supposed to come from and don't believe in pie in ski ideas about 'sponsorship' and such things.
In the CHCA payout scheme the top 3 in rally get majority while everyone else gets some money back.

I know if someone offered me $10k for my car today I would say no.
