Why FWD is aweful
October 24, 2011 05:06PM
First of all, its too easy to go fast.

With the exception of VW's and a few others, many of the FWD cars are far too modern and reliable. Newfangled, if you will.

Racing lines are too tidy. Anything you can't power over steer is lame. This includes airplanes, and horses.

These facts are backed by countless peer reviewed studies and empirical data. They cannot be refuted.

I agree.
But did you notice that despite the huge variety of new FWD, older FWD older rwd, ancient fwd (That nice mild 96 of Garth is 42 years old now, twice the age of many of you youngins) that the SS times were very close..

That's the beauty of Two Wheel Drive.

So while they're drive at the wrong end, they are still not some instant technological advantage, and experience and skill is still decisive.

I have personally "Oversteered" an airplane. You can yse that to scrub speed and altitude. And it is soo cool flying sideways!

Great job there Dave Clark the betterer.

I was out at Dirt Fish hooning around in Miata's Thursday, then did 2 laps in a MK3 jetta VR6, and was easily within 1 second of my fastest lap in the Miata. It was stupid how slow it felt to drive that thing, but it was going good. Controlling the line with LFB on the big sweeper was cool! Thanks Forest.

.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Now wait just a gosh darn minute there! I'll challenge Dave Clark The Imposter to a FWD throwdown any day!

But seriously, put him in a decent car and look at him go! I'm thinking the broken down old taxi cab might have been holding him back a bit.

But Dave..it was RWD so had to be superior in performance.

I think she mean't betterer than I once was. We don't want any Dave Clark civil wars.
Gene, the RWD taxi was superior in performance. It just wasn't as fast. winking smiley

Most old pilots slip (under steer) rather then skid (over steer) airplanes as, like in cars, skids can lead to spins and unlike in cars you can not just put on the brakes and stop. Well at least not until you hit the ground...

I was out slipping Cessna's down onto runways just last weekend.

Re: airplanes sideways...

I flew to Australia as a child. We stopped in Hawaii to refuel.

It was very cool because when the wheels touched down, I could see all the way down the run way.

I was not in the cockpit. eye popping smiley
