I came to introduce myself after john vanlandingham commented on my blog and said you guys at the forum are reading it. Hi I'm Matti smiling smiley

I noticed that my writings about the physical fitness raised some discussion. Personally I'm not a fitness fanatic, but I do believe when our trainer says it really helps especially on the longer rallies/days. I keep my own training pretty simple. Mainly eating normal home food with lots of vegetables and not so much salt&fat. Added to that running a couple of times a week and going to the gym a couple of times a week.

The main part of rallying is having fun though. Improving driving, pace notes and all that with the driver. As you can see from my brother Mikko's web pages and the rally reports there we try to enjoy rallying. My own 2012 season is going to be a bit more serious than before since I switch from co-driving for my brother Mikko to sit next to Andreas Amberg in the Finnish rally championship. Still very enjoyable though, but a lot more planning and paying attention to detail. Only three weeks to go to the first rally of the yearthumbs up

i have avoided running solely that i have had a knee injury in the past, from running cross-country in High School, and sometime i can get "pings" from that same area. So i have been sticking to biking as its low impact. But that is just as difficult as running if your pushing yourself.

Upper body strength has been my weakpoint, pull ups are hard. I blame my 6 foot tall self.

I managed to update the blog a bit before flying to Rovaniemi on Sunday for the Arctic Lapland Rally on 27th-28th of January. The rally has 233 special stage kilometers so the recce starts already on Monday.

Hey, when you're up in Rovaniemi, call my old friend Pauli Pippola and tell him I say Hi!

And ask him if that little kid who I used to chase and throw up into trees was the Pippola who became maailmanmesteri in snowmobibles...

I have now updated my blog http://finnishcodriver.blogspot.com/ with our 2012 Arctic Lapland Rally adventure with the Fiesta R2. We had our share of ups and downs. There are also in-car clips in youtube from user Anttu1988.

Have to admit that the ALR really is an adventure with the 233 stage kilometers.

I'm such a small guy that I hardly had the strenght to lift my blog back up spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Last Finnish championship round before Neste Oil Rally Finland was driven last weekend in Kouvola. First class win for me and Andreas in the smaller 2wd category. A rally report can be found from my blog
Report from Kouvola

The rally included lots of crashes and for example our biggest competitor's (Jukka Korhonen) crash can be found from my blog's youtube links. Even more spectacular was Juho Annala's coming right after Jukka. Sadly a couple of cars which had entry in for Rally Finland will have to cancel because of crashes. Juho is one of them.

Now only three weeks to living one of my life long dreams. Participating in Neste Rally Finland thumbs up smiley
with starting number 66 we'll be second 2wd car on the road after Jukka Korhonen.

Bad ass!

That was a fun read, thanks for sharing and congratulations on the win. I hope your injured competitors recover well, and are back at it next year.

Grant- have you tried the insanity workout? I'm really impressed with it, I picked up my copy for 10 bucks off craigslist so don't bother to buy new. It's as tough as you make it, but by and large a better/tougher overall workout than I have ever gotten from a gym.

No kidding, I jumped on an indoor coed team for the summer. Need to find a team for the fall as the games are starting to wrap up.

Nice! I'm trying to find an indoor coed team. My wife's teams are all high level and seem to win leagues more often than not. I've just been playing pickup games so far but eagerly and actively searching for a team. I'm doing a SoccerFit program on Friday at a local indoor place. Will be interesting. Open to high school and up so may have some young guns to try to keep up with. smiling smiley

What kind of things would you like to know? There are no "top secret, we can't tell anybody" aspects in the car. The basic thinking with us is that if somebody uses the same setups and drives faster = he might just be a faster driver. smiling smiley
Pretty much all I know/remember is that it has Reiger suspension in all corners. My brother can answer by email from the team mailbox heikkinen.racing(at)gmail.com if you send there the questions.
