Here's a pic of the rear...

This is the part from the 325 that I was curious about:
"in the rear adjustable radius arms by Porttikivi."

But assume you just have new bushings and the upper and lower on uprgiht replaced with both ball joints instead of rubber in upper and ball joint in lower.

the reason i ask is because i have an offer for a E36 M3 with the 3.0 engine for 500 dollars. The engine dropped a valve much like Kern's did. The owner would be taking the rear end and transmission from it. Which is fine since i would attempt the Supra 8" swap in this car as well. Traded down the brakes to normal 325 stuff so i can fit the 15" wheels etc. So for that price? The rest of the car is clean and stock.

I plan to see what 5 speeds can work (like E30 ones). Either way, i see them at pull a parts these days.

Thoughts? For the price, i really dont want to pass it up.

For that price, I'd come pick it up from Denver!!!

Don't bother with the Supra rear. You can get up to a 4.11 BMW final drive and LSD's are out there.

Dropped valves.. Ask Dave about that one. Weak valve retainers. I think Dave was able to just replace the head, which btw is the same as the 2.5L just a different cam so not too difficult to replace. Upgrade the valve retainers while you are in there.
2 door or 4 door?

The locks or split collets aren't "weak" they just don't "bite" the valve, they bottom against each other.. The whole assembly is "loose".

A quick ZING on the flat side---the part line---on a good clean machinist type grinding wheel (not the grey one you sharpen chisels and screwdriver on) so the flats don't touch, then the valve, collets and retainer is a shit ton more stable..

This is SOP on everything that uses the German 3 groove lock ie BMW, VW, Euro Ford, Saab, Opel, etc..

Real racecars use single round groove,

I like to drink beer till about 3 a.m for some reason on pre-race nights and get up early , drink a few pedia-lites and get going.. I seem to function better with minimal sleep.. Just me, maybe dumb!

I do absolutely zero working out, but I do work 7 days a week as a mechanic 365 days a year @ my shop.. Im sure that has to count toward something on fitness ...lol . Will probably catch up with me later on in life.

Some updates on the blog since Rally Finland

http://www.finnishcodriver.blogspot.fi/

After NORF I took my well earned summer holiday and flew to USA thumbs up smiley We took a road trip with the missus driving a convertible mustang San Francisco-Los Angeles-Sequoia-Yosemite-Napa Valley-San Francisco. Great scenery and especially the Yosemite national park roads would be excellent for rally driving smiling smiley

After summer holiday we secured third place in the Finnish 2wd category and I even managed to sit one F-Cup rally in my brother's M3. The F-Cup rally was nice except that we didn't have the balls to drive as fast as it would have been needed for top ten. On a blind rally even we managed to drive with an average speed of over 130km/h on one stage. That's faster than on legendary Ouninpohja... Fastest crew had an average speed of 136km/h or something like that.

Work is under way for planning next season and I think I will post some news about it in a month or so.

First test for next season is over. I'm staying in Finnish rally championship and switching a driver. In 2013 i'll sit next to Jari Kihlman and his brand new Evo 9 grinning smiley About 300hp/600nm. Have to say that I'm really looking forward to the season start.
