DMack Rally Tyres in the USA
December 08, 2011 11:06AM
I just wanted to let people know that I'm going to be distributing DMack tires here in the US and the first shipment is scheduled to arrive at the beginning of February. There will be 185/70 R13, 175/70 R14, 185/65 R14, 175/70 R15, 195/65 R15 and 205/65 R15 gravel tires in this first load, with common sizes in soft and medium compounds.

You can see more info and pricing on our site www.dmacktyresusa.com .

Also, feel free to email me with questions, special orders or to reserve tires from the first load.

-Justin

Any idea if the Tarmac tires actually have a DOT stamp on them? Looking over the UK DMack site is says it should have E and DOT stamps.. I've got a silly idea..

Thanks
Jason

I'm not sure, I'll ask but won't know for sure until the shipment arrives. I'm not planning on stocking tarmac tires unless more interest arises, for now I'm just bringing a couple of sets over for my cars (15" and 17"winking smiley.

February sounds good. If I can't unload the used yoko's I have they are going to get destroyed at hyperfest next summer.

That's great news Justin, It's nice to have a guy that uses 14's selling 14's. You'll get my business.

Thanks Sean. I think the 14" business is going to be a bit tough since the folks running them don't go through many tires in a season and quite a few are happy running used hand-me-downs. But since there's been a drought I'm hoping that if I do my best to keep them available and at a reasonable price people will buy enough to make it worthwhile. Fortunately there are lots of folks running 15's that also want DMacks so that should help ensure that containers can still sail even if 14" sales can't do it alone.

By the way, this is what the 14" looks like (pretty familiar, I know).

Justin what e-mail should we use to contact you. The one listed in your first post bounced when I tried to send from g-mail. A couple of general questions:

Will all of the 15" tires come in both compounds?

How does the size of your 195/65 R15s compare to the Lassa ones?

How small are the 175/70R15 tires? I used to run Hankook 185/65R15s and they were a good size tire is the 175/70 similar is height just a little narrower?

I'm getting a bit confused here.
1) I thought Whiskers was bringing in DMack Tyres to the US
2) We know Chris Martin is bringing in DMack Tyres to Canada

Is there really that much of a market for this to happen without someone getting burned?

Was might be the key word?
Someone getting burned? Market demanded tires, Justin's delivering. Sounds pretty capitalist to me. I think the market can support multiple importers anyhow.

Andrew:
Sorry, the email is info@dmacktyresusa.com, or you can email me at justin@greasecar.com.

All the tires are available in 3 compounds, I am bringing in soft and medium versions of all the 15" tires we have listed on the site in this first shipment but more mediums than soft.

I can't comment on the dimensions of the DMacks and Lassas since I don't have the two side by side. When I get the shipment in I will post measurements of all the tires on the website.

Keith:
Whiskers introduced DMack to the market then decided he doesn't want to be a dealer. Chris Martin saw the opportunity to bring the tires into Canada and due to my own frustration finding tires in the US market I decided to do the same. DMack decided they wanted an exclusive dealer in both US and Canada, Dick Cormack offered me the US since Whiskers didn't want it with the understanding that I don't step on Chris's toes with Canadian sales. I've already forwarded 3 Canadian inquires I've received up to Chris.

Just like many other products there are Canadian and US dealers, this helps customers get better pricing on shipping and duty. If you're in Calgary, Chris is your man, if you had to buy from me you'd get whacked at least another 10-20% on duties, brokerage and shipping. The consumer is the one who gets burned if they have to purchase across borders.

Thanks Justin

Grant:
I'd be shocked if the NA rally tire market could support multiple distributors in each country for such a specialized item. It might be good for retail pricing, although the other brands available do that already, but it would eventually hurt both distributors an make one or both decide the business model wasn't working.

Capitalism isn't always a good thing for long term sustainability.

Isn't there a vacuum currently in the 'club racer' price range for tires? Silverstone is still a bit of an unknown, and Lassa is pretty much gone from this market.

Happy to see the dmack stuff imported @ this price point. Too bad its on the wrong coast for me though..

There already are multiple rally tire suppliers in both the US and Canada who offer different levels of service and varied price points I doubt that any of them are making their living exclusively through tire sales. I don't know If Chris is planning on making tire distribution his full time job but for me it's an additional product line I'm adding to my existing mail order business for some income diversity and to use additional capacity. You are correct that the NA rally market is small relative to other countries and I don't see anyone making a good living trying to sell a single rally product line but any additional income is helpful in the current economy.

It's mostly a vacuum for 'club racer'-priced 14" tires.

Lassa was out of stock in Sept, and currently MIA. (haven't returned emails or phone calls, website is broken so I can't just place an order)
Silverstone is out of 14s as well, with no new tires on the horizon. Didn't ask about 15s.
Haven't heard back from Treadzone about the Hankooks (ugh), but I'm pretty sure they're out of 14s.

It seems that Silverstone and Treadzone may have decently priced 15s, but once those are gone, they're likely gone.

That pretty much leaves DMack at the 'club-priced' level.
