My rears are fine, the only time I ever bend them is when I rip off corners... The only time I don't have spares is when I've used them up... which reminds me I need to get some spare rears :-) Note: my rears are not struts, but coil-over shocks and are B46's so I guess they are already 50mm+ bodies.

The front 40mm's on my car bent all the time now... I must be going faster, and be less willing to lift for the rough stuff. My car is a heavy pig too, which porobably doens't help. But teh bending is getting way too regular. 4 in the last 3 events. I NEED 50mm struts for the front. I'll carry spare inserts, and also probably a pair of ready to bolt on 40's, unless they are all bent by then... I'm reluctant as hell to buy more 40mm inserts, as this is just putting off the real fix, but if teh 50mm's aren't available what choice do I have... I'll take a 6 pack please, that should last me for the next 3 events :-)

I'm with Chris, 40mm stuff is OK to get started on, especially if you are prepared to be cereful when the going gets rough. But once you start bending them, it's time for 50mm or you'll be forever cursing the bent/broken struts.

uh, err ... have we made any progress ?

Going to Perce Neige - maiden rally for the newly refreshed Audi...I expect limited snow banks and lots of ice = stay on the road and you'll do well...

Anyway - sure would like some spares smiling smiley

Vito! Great to hear you'll be a PN, don't do a repeat of 2007(?) :-)
I'm in the same boat as you, I have the struts that are on that car and that's it, if I bend an insert I'm out I guess. I couldn't see spending more on 40mm inserts when I need to go 50mm's as soon as they are available.
I heard form the green crew that there's lots of snow and ice... go figuer :-) I need to get a snow bank report... My guess is they shoudl be a reasonable size, we had quite a lot of snow since Christmas, only the last week it's bene mild, but I doubt it was that mild in Maniwaki.

Noice!

I was going by the pics taken just after New Years on the site and I've been watching the weather up there, didn't seem like they were getting dumped on - but lots of little snow events - but if you've got feet on the street up there, I'll believe that...

For me, seeded 5a, there's going to be ice regardless - polished, glassy, shiny ice smiling smiley

Vito...

If you get really f'ed....i'll have some 50mm stuff as spares in the trailer.

The top pins will be different (subaru fitment), but if you really need to monster something, it's doable.

Tanks for the offer Chris, I might have to take you up on that (but I hope not). I'm trying to round up some decent stock stuff and per-fit it as a just in case backup...

Chris - I'll certainly look you up in a pinch - I'll bring some stock stuff just in case (if I don't bring it, I'll need it, if I do, I wont)

Thanks!

Here's what the "Tortue" stage looked like as of last Sunday :

I'Ve heard that the snow banks are hard enough to prevent a 2500 truck to go through them...

If I see some more pics I'll post them here.

Well there will be updates within minutes of me getting an update from Bilstein.. That said "early Spring" and its middle of Winter now.

This is a kinda special deal and just who is going to stock things and be warehouses is unclear. Of course I'm hoping that since I have been pushing Bilstein in the North American rally world longer and harder and evidently know the product and valving pretty well, that I would be able to buy direct these 50s and the 40s...but who knows..

Hey Martin I do have a pair of DMS inserts which are good body length but currently just too short of travel. Very likely they have a spacer under the piston head to limit the shaft travel... Now if you're hot and want to work with me, I could see about making this pair into hybrid DMS bodies with Bilstein internals so we get the travel up..
Tubes are done so then its just ears in whatever position you have settled on...

Whaddya say?
