Welcome friend! You are going to have so much fun.

Whats the plan? Is this a first outting, or did you get sick of the upkeep on your open class car?

Here is some motivation :

Zijn dobri Zidkovich, or dobri dan as the case may be.

Nice looking car. Round headlights even.

Kinda appropriate that you're up in Alberta---then Albert posts, cause it twas up in RockyMountain when it was down in Pincher Creek in 1987 that I saw just how good a 240 can be with moderate power and a good driver...

So, you gonna be sensible like Al or flip out and ruin the car by dropping a Small Block POS in it , or what???

I'm up and had a cuppa tea and have some ciggies, some.... give a call if'n you want.

And start look for a T5

dobroe utro!

the car appears to be mechanically sound. new brakes and suspension, previous owner treated it like gold. first order of business is to fly out on the 20th and pick it up. 12 hours back to edmonton should be a good shakedown! if all goes well it looks like ill be hitting the tbird tsd. figured this'll be a good way to get to know the car and a fun weekend with the girlfriend. ive done a few grass-o-cross events in quick vw's but realized quickly rwd is where the action's at.

there shall be no sb sacrilage in my life. i've already got feelers out on the t5. got a few ??'s regarding rear end strategy... are the tru trac lsd's worth the $500? should i just get new tall r&p and weld it up? no plans for more power yet, gonna focus on gears, suspenders and basic beef ups of bushings, control arms etc. not quite ready to tackle a yota swap till other more crucial bits are adressed

I have a welded diff with 4.88 and the T5, and a pretty stock NA motor. I really like the way it works. Never get any "pushing" at speed, (insert joke about low speed here) it just makes a racket going around the gas pumps. For faster events I might go with a 4.56, or a way to raise the rev limit.

The T5 deal of having pretty close ratios, and the 5th for cruising, is really nice.

If you are in need of any help locally, there are a few of us in the Deadmonton area. I don't believe I've saw your name around before, but considering you know about TBird, you must already hang out with some of the rally folk.

Stop by and have a beer sometime! The rally Tal[hoon] is always being tinkered with, we're on the NW side of town near the Cambodian Tire in the Kingsway area. Good luck on the adventure with the car grinning smiley

Sorry, I'm in Edmonton. Red Deer is my hometown and everyone knows I'm from there. Considering I move about once a year, it seemed pointless to put Edmonton as where I was living currently!

skookum...

looks like alot of stuff is falling into place for the build, might have to pay a little more for a t5 as they've all been harvested 'round these parts. got a few weeks till i'll need it tho. found a rebuilt turbo redblock with 29,000 km (18000 miles for the amuricans) but the kid won't give me a price and he "dont wanna get lowballed". turning into a pain in the ass and i haven't even gone to look at it yet. dont even wanna waste one of my 3 days home this month if he's out of whack on his price. what should i offer? here's what he responded:

The motor and parts (computer & harness) that you requested are available. The motor has 29,000 kms on it. It has new everything including con rods, pistons, crank reground, head work, turbo etc. I am open to reasonable offers.

without knowing what he's got into what should i offer? obviously i want it for free, but i gotta offer something fair...
