Found a 2 hour copy of a copy of the coverage of the 1986 RAC on YouTube. One of the commentators said that "top drivers get about 200,000 [pounds] a year".

According to this page, the car that Stig Blomqvist was driving was his personal vehicle. Or, at least, Ford sold it to him only a couple months earlier.

Hmm, now I want to go back and check out what the other number plates are...
