Pacific Raceways is putting on a crapcan race this March. The rules look to be similar to chumpcar rules. Here's more info:

At this point, there is no way the RX7 will be ready in time to run. :-( Too focused on getting the GTX ready for the 2012 Rally season.

I am pretty busy, but getting more interested in joining a team at the ground level.

There was thought of straightening my wadded car enough to be a crap can car, or cutting the main section of cage out and dropping it in something else. It would probably fit in a Volvo.....

Just looked at Tha Roolz, and they want like a real rollcage. I don't think I'm gonna be able to install such a thing in anything, tween now and March. Dammit.

275 for the car and 4X100 for the drivers. Pricey when you add in the safety equipment including only full faced helmets and fire proof gloves, shoes and socks. No medical either. Need to find out if Aflac type stuff covers these events.

All of these guys need to get their collective heads out of their asses on the cost of the car. $500 is bullshit. Quit being cutsie and come up with a realistic cost and claim. $2-3000 or so or whatever a typical beater IT costs for example. That price would then be the theoretical limit. Race whatever you want but everyone entering signs a title or realease of interest and bill of sale. Someone wants to claim the car then you get XXXX. Cars must be claimed and paid for before the race (in secret) and delivered after the race. Simple.

Yeah pretty foof-ular really.
But one suggestion on the above. Open claim only within 45 minutes of end of race.
Counterclaims allowed by others.
In the great Frozen north of Rally Paradis, they do it that was so the owner has some chance of retaining the car which, however cheese-ular it may be, he's worked on a fair amount---the real cost..
So somebody puts in a claim, you can scramble around and get 30 of your friends to put in counter-claims, and if they win, the money they put up (which you lent them---only the one that wins) you get right back.

It sure seems there is HUGE amounts of scope for completely arbitrary and capricious bullshit though.

I agree, Gene. But I kind of see this happening (unofficially) when I see "stock" Miatas, Sentra SE-Rs, etc. in these races. Sure, they may get lap penalties but they're still out there. Maybe it's the natural evolution of these races.

I like how Pacific Raceway's ROLL-X rules allow for competition parts adjustments in the form of lap penalties. You could conceivably race an old, no-longer-competitive SCCA race car (like the one I provided a link to) with maybe a 50 lap penalty. I don't think ChumpCar lets you do this. The penalty may keep you from winning but who cares if you just want to go out there and have fun. Besides, racing on a stock suspension sucks. Much more fun with a proper setup!

I'm kind of on the fence with claiming cars but I know it's worked well for the circle track guys.

Chump car had a class at PIR for proper road race cars.

Paper Mache tree in the side of my XR, weld in a new rear beam in the correct location, replace a cage tube or 2, and weld the doors shut and it is raceable. Problem being all teh drivetrain, electrical, suspension needs to go into the new shell so it would need to be some shocks/struts, and a different engine/trans. I am pretty sure I have most everything to do it, but really don't have a ton of time to spare with my current project load.

I think a better option is a Volvo, cut the roof off, cut the cage out of the XR, and slap something together. There were 2 or 3 at Portland, with cust simple engine mods like a shaved head, and they went real good, and were reliable.
