Sean, the ChumpCar class for proper race cars was exhibition only. They weren't competing against the crapcans.

I knew that, but thought the question qas what if they let a race car run with a huge lap penalty? Well they let the race cars run the entire event.

Jay, the Omni Hornet car is still down here and available. It needs some work, though. It's basically in the same shape as when it got beat on at the last enduro we did at Monroe a few years ago. Need to clean the moss off and chase the mice out. Do a little rear bodywork and axle adjusting. See if the engine still runs, stuff like that. Probably would need some roll cage upgrades.

Generally true in practice. It's gotten where people take it too seriously and really want to win at the expense of cheating in areas that are really hard to enforce. The claimer rule would be a good one here.

I also liked Lemons when they destroyed a car. That certainly prevented people from bringing anything TOO nice. The year I did Lemons at Thunderhill, they destroyed the ex-road race Mazda 6 that was spanking everyone. It had relocated suspension points and a hot motor. Definitely not $500. The owners were pissed, but they accepted their fate.

I've run Lemons once and Chumpcar once... both in *real* $500 cars. A 1993 Impreza wagon with close to 300,000 miles on the clock. It did have suspension with only 100,000 miles on it, though. The only "new" parts were brake pads and tires. It was a real piece of shit. And we had a blast. Finished 4th at the very first Chumpcar race, and our car was posting some of the slowest times on the track... it just never stopped.

So, build a reliable piece of shit and go have a blast!
