January 31, 2012 08:35PM
Anyone in the Boston area have a terraphone transit head set kit they'd like to either sell or loan?

Need them for Perce Neige - we've decided to use the race car for recce and its just going to be too loud..

my cat is my muffler - seriously, even if I thought it would help that much, it would be bad risk management to add that to the list at this point in the preparation schedule...lack of insulation has a lot more to do with it and I'd rather not spend 12 hours talking loudly to my co-driver. In fact its really not that much louder than driving the tow rig with the vent windows open - I often have to ask to close them (my crew smokes and likes them open) so we can go back to conversing in a normal tone...

My turbocharger works great as a muffler!

My cat is my muffler too... I used to have a muffler as well, but a rally car that is too quiet is not a good idea, we used to come across people wandering down the stages because they didn't hear us coming!

I hadn't really thought of that. I just want to be able to hear my boxer a little more, and well put together another copy of my exhaust so my CA legal exhaust doesn't get torn up racing.

Terraphone doesn't make these headsets outright right? How about some over ear headphones or those noisy jobsite earmuffs with the terraphone boom mic/speakers installed. Should be able to do that pretty cheap.

At one point they talked about requiring us to remove cats from rally cars for hill climbs for that exact reason.
The sketchiest times when filming are the last 5-10 cars. When you start trying to get packed up and you can't hear them coming.
There was a Focus at one event in the PNW that was completely stock. Luckily it was driven about as fast as a person who just bought a completely stock Focus and added a few more hundred pounds to the car drives.

What about the hearing protection earmuffs with built in radios and a little FM modulator? I bet that would work better than a Terraphone and you could rock out to some country! (Since that's all they have on the radio in remote areas where we rally)

My car Is pretty quiet, and I haven't yet had people stand in the middle of the stage from the lack of hearing me coming.

I use a summit high flow Cat and a baffled cherry bomb Muffler its only $15 and made in the USA.

If your intercom ever goes out while on stage, OR if you have to get out of the car and back in, and either your or the navigator fail to plug in , You may be wishing you had a more quiet exhaust system.

At Idaho last year i locked up my brakes and slid off the road, and couldn't restart the car so we put out triangles, got the car started and unstuck, grabbed triangles, belted in and off we went. Jeana had forgotten to plug back in, but could yell loud enough to be easily heard. (for only costing you $15-$20 its something to consider)

also the more quiet your car is, the more possible testing areas you'll have .... . .. ...
