I need to pick up a mazda now and run in some class locally with no competition....

Payouts are reduced for classes with low entries, at least they were in 2011:
- To be eligible for the full (100%) award amount listed, competitor must finish ahead of at least 3 other competitors in the class
- If the competitor finishes ahead of just 2 other competitors the award amount is reduced by 25%
- If the competitor finishes ahead of just 1 other competitor the award amount is reduced by 50%
- No award is available if competitor is the only car in the class or if they do not finish ahead of another competitor.

I need a fwd Mazda now so I can ca$h in without having to worry about trying to beat Pete.

Well that's academic, locally, since 2wd modified was me, a Miata driver, Chris driving one or both of our cars, and sometimes a BMW and sometimes a VW and one of three different Neons, which are now in a different class, but generally M2 was guaranteed to have a Mazda winner. (Unless the VW managed to not break, in which case it could go either way - silly fun car)

Evan (Miata) is going with a turbomotor this year. Gotta step up my game smiling smiley Although I am still not convinced that a turbo engine is conducive to driving a RWD at lowish speeds if you're trying to keep the tail in line. I'd like to test drive his car once this year after he sorts it out, assuming that I can wedge myself into it.

Best chance, for me, for getting contingency bucks is going up to Detroit region, they tend to have a deep MR class, up to 20% of the field.

But I look at it this way - WOR, OVR, Ft. Wayne, and Detroit rallycross series are all within four hours of me. Normally I only run WOR and OVR and Detroit's "special" events. If I go to every region's regionals, and if get moneys at even half of them, that's like Mazda paying me to rallycross twice as often, since ever outing usually hits me for $200-250 a pop. So that's not too shabby at all, I get more seat time for the same outlay. The car *probably* is reliable enough now for me to hit three or four rallycrosses a month. Just gotta keep winning no matter how much better everyone else gets thumbs up

I physically, like, *called* them, and he said I should have got e-mail over the weekend. And he confirmed that it was regionals as well.

Ho-lee-shit, I'm gonna turn a profit rallycrossin'. Well, maybe.

Wah wah. FromThe Detroit rx forum

Well I got some bad news, I just called mazdamotorsports and I was asking about what stickers and logos had to be where for the contingency prize money requirement, and they said the release was a typo and it was meant for NATIONAL rallycross (like it has been prior) and not regional events

Which if that is true then they are significantly cutting back on contingency, since in 2011 it was $750/500/250 for 1st/2nd/3rd for National.

It can't be for National Challenge events since there will be none in 2012.

The V8 swap continues! Being a Pete project, it's gonna be a bit "different".

There will be National Challenge events in 2012, but only one per division. OVR is hosting the Great Lakes Division National Challenge event August 25-26.

And it's V-8 now? Not Ecotec?

Well, the Ecotec idea is nice, but in the end I'd still have an expensive, high-strung engine.

And if I'm going to do that, I can do that just as well with a Ford 302, only with 450-500hp instead of 300. A short-nose 5.0 from an MN10 would be a nice starting point, and I may have a line on a 302 rotating assembly, as I've heard far too many horror stories about the 50oz-in crank breaking to trust one, not when the 28oz-in unit is basically trouble-free.

No kill like overkill, and all that. With a nasty enough cam, it should be drivable enough if I keep the revs under about 4500, and as a bonus it should run really cool. And then when I'm at non-rallycross activities, there'd be another 3000rpm to play with. Power corrupts, and all that.
