Wilson where do you come over these things? The things implied in just the following:
are hilarious in their presumption and arrogance and shamelessness. THIS represents the problems in US Rally in a nutshell. Don't worry...if Wilson looks harder, he'll find a similar ad in Minnesota..with zero pay...and car number mentioned. No comment.
Ok...I'll edit...with less vaguery.. Here's the link. http://duluth.craigslist.org/tlg/2838327009.html BTW, I don't agree or disagree. I think it is cool that they are trying to market themselves. At least they upfront about the terms, and leave no room for miscommunication. Owner, Driver, Head Mechanic, and Janitor at Tower City Race Team, headquartered near L'Anse. Michigan. It is simple economics. If you can get it for near free, why not?
Both teams WILL get handfulls of applications for these shoots and some of the girls will actually be attractive and talented enough to make it worthwhile. My bet is they are doing the same for the photographer, or are shooting it themselves. Professionals, bring predictability and repeatability to the process from both the modelling and shooting side. There are a couple of very easy to make mistakes when doing this kind of shoot that most people won't even notice until it is too late to re-shoot, and are near impossible to photoshop out. (To give you an idea, I've been a professional photographer for 20 years and don't feel super comfortable with this kind of shoot - only becasue I see it done badly so often.) But... in the end it doesn't matter because what-ever they come up with will 'clear the bar' in terms of what they expect and will accept and professionals would also bring a significant price tag to the shoot and the poster project. What they are missing in all of this is that the 'right' thing to do when budgeting is to set-aside 15 to 20% of sponsorship income to be spent on promotions and PR. But at $4,000 for tires for a season I doubt they've spent much time on setting their budget. (either they're talking a net $4k after selling off partially used tires or they don't plan on running new tires all the time.) That's not simple economics, that's exploitation. I'm with JVL on this one, pay the girls at least minimum wage for the hours they put in. It's fair and it's the right thing to do. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/20/2012 01:43PM by MikeColangelo. |

I like to think that I have some success in this particular area, so...
The difference between a woman who has some experience doing this and a "first-timer in a bikini" is noticable. (Even they two women are otherwise twins.) A photographer who is experienced (in working with models, not in working with a camera) can make up for this. Some ladies will do "TFP", which means "Trade For Prints", which means they'll trade their time and effort and not get paid in order to expand their portfolio, to work toward paid gigs. Craigslist is probably not the best community to begin the project. Instead, they should be at http://www.modelmayhem.com/ But that community has gatekeepers, you can't get in until you're already in the modeling/photography world (catch22), so they would need to contact one of the local photographers to organize the local models. Not really - the only people who will take them up on their offer are girls who what to build a portfolio and who need 'experience' in front of the camera. Doing 'free' jobs like this takes the place of paying a photographer to shoot portfolio images. They get more than a paycheck out of it. The perfect storm is when you find photographers, models and make-up artists who all need 'portfolio' work - the problem is that with inexperienced people it could all go wrong and you'd end up with nothing you'd want to show anyone and starting from scratch. The tradeoff for using 'free' talent is the chance you have to re-do the work. Hahahaha, I love the exposure line.
"Oh man, we can't pay you to shoot this, but you'll get LOTS of exposure!" Sweet! I love not being able to pay my bills! Oh I'm sorry, what is that verizon? You don't except exposure as a form of payment? How about a photo credit? Oh.... no that as well? Um... ok. Thanks... Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. Edited 1 time(s). Why is that land whale on your STI?
That's all I could find, I do live in northern Michigan. Could be worse. Could have a horse faced female driver with a decent body making posters of herself sprawled all over the car. Wonder what ever happened to the Rallye Star. That was one thing Rally Colorado did seem to have a least a few of. Hot girls wandering around the parc expose. 2006 when the whole trio of college girls at the awards party flashed Pastrana in the bar was pretty hilarious. Never seen much talent at any of the other rally expose or after party. Ski towns are full of talent. Grant Hughes |
