'02 update & exciting stuff at wrc

everything is to spec, despite the redundency of the support pillar - we were going to bend it slightly - specifically on the driver side - but got lazy and figured it wasnt crucial for the two extra inches of wrist room - theres is plenty of room uNless your a giant fat ass! which I am not, neither is my co - so if your a giant fat ass - you wont be driving my car - if youre a boy you wont be driving my car, and pretty much no one but me will be driving my car - gues what , thats who its built for... to spec.
and Im not a "welder now" I was welding long before I heard of rally racing... this cage will destroy most other cages - there is zero brittleness and its welded with "super high strength missile steel rod" like that - yeye I thought you would


post the pic was easy once I selected the "email size image" I went to small the first time - oops dont do that

and in my world there is no such thing as a quick and dirty paint job - maybe some other things quick and dirty - BUT NEVER paint ! why bother if its gonna suck ? I have a gallon of urethyne metallic silver - the inside will get the same but with a touch of flattener - and oh yes, it will probably have glitter and silver leaf details - get ready people - wait for it wait for it ...

Quick and dirty IS kinda the point in rally. If you like the car too much, or have so much money sunk intovit you can't write it off, you willl be slow.

I may be slow, but will get to the finish, and to the next rally! I have way more time, blood , blood clots, sweat, not sure about tears - than money- into the car - and I already write it all off as a "school expense/hobby" money is NOTHING to a dietitian with rally car wishes and spark plug dreams haha

You seem to selectively ignore serious questions like the poor fit and lack of thought given to attaching the cage to the shell.
That does not bode well for a happy outcome on gravel.

its NOT a poor fit - promise. there will be attachment points but the bpillars are already practically touching with the hoop - I like how you selectively failed to notice the "perfectly" sized holes thru hh-which the back stays go to the rear towers...

While the 3+" between the A pillar and the a pillar bar isn't necessarily 'poor' (I've seen much worse), it sure isn't great either.

I'm no cage builder, but having the bars close enough that they can be welded directly to the shell (ie. no gusset material) is a much higher priority to me than having perfectly sized holes though the rear bulkhead.

that is NOT 3+ inches sir its wayy less you cant even see the bars when driving and my headache bar is touching so it the hoop and so are the b pillars you guys love to get me riled about this dont ya

and further more who ever said "2002 is not a particularly sturdy bodyshell" must not have worked that much with this model - compared to what ? cage is stout, touches everywhere its supposed to despite the apparent optical illusions ... the german steel the car is constructed of is oh so sturdy! I cant believe you are hating on my car / cage so much

I supposed I would say that to a new rally person building a nice car if my rally car was a merkur

Looks like some one is starting to sound hurt.

German steel is sturdy? As compared to what? Common teach us something from a yuppy magazine. By the way that shell is as sturdy as a wet noodle. Compared to said Merkur for example.

Now you need to get off the rag and come back later so you dont get so hurt from sound advice by people with experience.

we dont see mekurs around these parts doesnt mean its not good - I however feel the body of the bmw is, xpecially now with cage is quite sturdy - they will see - and sorry but I dont read those magazines you referred to but that was cute

at what point does the structural rigidity of the shell become irrelevant in the face of a rather in depth roll cage? its not like its made from cardboard... its also not a couple ton diesel pickup truck.

Also, people are getting a touch rude.

Painting the inside of the car is a bitch, and after as many scratches as I put in my cage installing/removing parts over and over again. Grab a cheap suction gun and swap back and forth to the gravity feed while your doing it. Makes it easier to get the angles.
I'm glad I went with a single stage white that was the same white used on boat loads of chevy pickups. I can just touch it up with a rattle can.

On the outside, I'm only willing to paint as nice as I'm willing to be able to respray myself.

I'd love to make a WRC round someday, was it worth it as a destination event? or an additional thing to do while on vacation in the area?
