I do tell everyone that. Though in your case at least its a car that a new shell is relatively cheap and I've always liked the looks of them. There was one out west a few years back I think.

wrc was my destination that time ! yes it was all worth it!! - I went to the event for the full five days fortunately hosted by some insider connections and got to meet and hang out with the big boys (and girls) spent the other five days of the trip in stokholm hanging out with a rallycross team there - it was okay but Im not much for sight seeing...so I just helpout on on this little project while there

as far as painting the interior Im very comfortable using the hvlp system for spraying and plan to use the small "touch up" gun for the hard to reach places not having any glass also helps for the "reach around" - originally I was hoping to use single stage flat white for the interior but right now in california you have to hustle to get the right reducer or risk getting stuck with the new water based system which Im resistant to still... so will just use what I have and flatten it out a little on the inside - easy enough to rattle can silver paint for touch ups later I like painting and have a degree in collision repair including refinishing so its not a big deal just a lot of work and prep to get that "wow" effect

There is a difference between intial rudeness----which camn come in the form of bullshitting, and pretending to know things which one obviously doesn't---and a resposnse to that...

And yeah, nearly every car we can think of are relatively speaking flexy noodle. 2002 was notorious for being limp. But as they were invaribly driven by hairdressers and accountants that wasn't a problem---as long as it has the BMW badge, there is no possibility of wrong...yeah roght.

But the pivotal thing is "in depth". And good fit.... The windshield opening and door openings are awfully big holes, seems good shell builders make 'em stiff enough to roll without always cracking the screen..


But as i said : whatever.

It's not the work that is bad, the cockiness about stock stuff is silly, espeially when you've seen the same shit 1000 times.

Ok, you nutters, I put on my scrutineering hat today and went up and looked at Lina's car. Let me address a number of points that've been raised in this thread:

1) The cage is quite well built. The welds are solid and complete, and I could detect no signs of undercutting, insufficient coverage, or otherwise sketchy welds in any of the main elements. It's also quite reasonably well-fitting. The picture she posted of the car in the lot seems to be taken at an angle that exaggerates the distance of the A-pillar bars from the A-pillar - in actuality they're reasonably close. Also, she's adding in gussets to tie the cage into the shell at both the A-pillars and B-pillars as well as certain other key points.

2) The side X's are at a reasonable height and I don't think it'll be an issue getting in and out of the car in a hurry.

3) I can see why she's running 13" wheels. I personally would try to shoehorn 14"s in there but it'll be a tight fit and 15"s are completely out without entirely redoing both the front and rear suspension. We all know 13"s are hard to find, so I suspect she'll have to go with 14"s eventually. The ground clearance with the 13"s is fine and they'll have the advantage of giving a little more "pop" to the acceleration, but that's just me looking on the bright side of things. The main issue is going to be brake cooling. That might be partially solveable with some ducting, or just taking it easy on the downhills.

4) Most likely the car has an open rear diff. I think that's going to be her biggest issue on stage. Some suggestions on fixing that would be helpful. I don't think the teeny little CV's on the rear will hold up with a welded diff, so some kind of LSD is in order. A brief web search shows that a 318/325 diff will swap right in and has 25% lockup. Not ideal but better than open. It's also available with a 4mumble final drive.

5) Right now she's got a small Weber on it with long runners - the stock setup. For DCOE's I would probably get at least 45's for it and then pick a venturi to tune, but I think the 40's she's got will be an improvement over stock. (Frankly, I would ditch the Webers and go with Mikunis, but that's just me. I like Dell'Orto's too, but they're a bitch to find jets for sometimes.)

Above all, remember that she's not trying to build a car to beat Duplessis or ACP or Burress, just trying to build something that she can go out and screw around in the dirt with. And that's what it's all about, right? Mucking about in the dirt having fun with your toy.
